Who do you predict will win the HD format war?

by Marc Bennett Moderator - 2/6/07 2:50 PM

Who do you predict will win the HD format war?

HD DVD (Why?)
Blu-ray (Why?)
Neither; they will both co-exist. (How so?)
I have no idea
I don't give a hoot (Why not?)
Other (What would that be?)

HD-DVD sounds better

by eranoco - 2/8/07 4:18 PM In reply to: HD-DVD by brickfungus

HD-DVD sounds a lot better than Blu-Ray. In comparison, HD-DVD sounds like a real format, and Blu-Ray sounds like a kid's marker for art and crafts.

But whatever; the dominant format that wins, wins domination. But the other will not be completely gone for a long while.

Long while.

Whichever DVD format wins the battle, it will almost surely be a long battle.

could be.

by bamf06 - 2/9/07 4:14 PM In reply to: Long while. by gudguy

If its going to be a long battle and then it would be only fair if both formats co-exist. If there is to be one loser it will be HD-DVD, or they co-exist. I can't see how blu-ray will lose at this point.

HD DVD

by Tombo60 - 3/19/07 1:38 PM In reply to: Long while. by gudguy

I think that HD DVD will win because it is cheaper but I think that Blu Ray will return in the future.

HD-DVD SOUNDS BETTER?

by David_cr - 2/10/07 9:33 AM In reply to: HD-DVD sounds better by eranoco

I would just like to sound off by saying are you serious, your predition
is based on what it sounds like. Why don't you go over to IRAQ LISTEN TO WHAT IS GOING ON AND GIVE US YOUR STUPID PREDITION OF THE OUTCOME....

prediction???

by eranoco - 3/9/07 4:48 AM In reply to: HD-DVD SOUNDS BETTER? by David_cr

Prediction? I just said that "HD-DVD sounds a lot better than Blu-Ray". That was just an opinion. I was really being neutral in the outcome with the statement "But whatever; the dominant format that wins, wins domination." That can go either way, and I don't really care which wins. I just "do NOT like" the name Blu-Ray. Hahaha How would feel if some future format for media was named "Boo-Blue"?? ROFL

But it sounds like someone here is having a fit over the Iraq situation here... And even with that totally different topic, which shouldn't even belong here, I have NOoooo prediction; let alone a significant opinion on that topic. And I know our troops are accessing the web, and I respect them and support their efforts; even forgiving miscommunication.

Let me define the two different concepts here using dictionary.com as reference:

opinion: a personal view, attitude, or appraisal
prediction: a statement made about the future; the act of predicting (as by reasoning about the future)

However, if you really meant "predition", that word does not officially exist, LOL
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/predition

Sorry it took a month to respond. Going through thousands of junk mail, with a couple dozen legitimate ones each day, takes FOREVER!.

HD War

by Peterbit - 2/6/07 9:23 PM In reply to: Who do you predict will win the HD format war? by Marc Bennett Moderator

Neither format has an edge over the other, all I see is another way to get the public to spend money on systems much as it was with VHS vs Beta. Instead of working together to develop the best system possible thety end up in a P***ing cointest.

HD DVD vs. BlueRay and VHS vs. Beta

by basotl - 2/6/07 10:30 PM In reply to: HD War by Peterbit

What do most experts believe made a difference in the VHS vs Beta war?... the P0RN industry. P0RN was banned on the Beta and the industry gave VHS a little push of larger market share.

Now representatives of the P0RN industry say that Sony is not making them feel welcomed and they are going with HD DVD. I'm thinking this might be enough of a push to give HD DVD a push ahead.

Then again it is very possible that players will begin supporting both formats. Like +/- DVD-R on the computer.

but it's 2007

by brickfungus - 2/6/07 10:38 PM In reply to: HD DVD vs. BlueRay and VHS vs. Beta by basotl

we have the interweb now.

True, but some things don't download well

by Leria - 2/7/07 1:22 AM In reply to: but it's 2007 by brickfungus

It is true that we have the internet for porn now, but the problem is that most of the porn on the internet is of such inferior quality as far as videos go because of bandwidth limitations, that most porn productions will be on DVD or HD-DVD/Blu-Ray for a long time to come.

Then there's USENET

by MikeTex - 2/7/07 5:38 AM In reply to: True, but some things don't download well by Leria

Maybe not from the web, but the news groups are already full of pirated DVD titles and some quality HD video. Right now it's mostly HD TV programs, but I'm sure when porn goes HD you'll be able to find it up there to download. The real winners will be hard drive manufacures...

Porn has decided it before, what's different now?

by muzzin - 2/7/07 5:49 AM In reply to: HD DVD vs. BlueRay and VHS vs. Beta by basotl

I agree with basotl, porn will rule. Since the porn industry has more gross revenues (evidently) by a long shot (no pun intended) than mainstream Hollywood. please refer to:

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,245638,00.html
and
http://www.macworld.com/news/2006/05/02/pornhd/index.php?lsrc=mwrss

The porn industry has been a leader in innovation and adoption as well
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,245638,00.html

In short, if the porn industry makes $12 billion per year in the US versus $9 billion for Hollywood and they are faster adopters, the logical conclusion is they win. But if that is isn't convincing enough, can you guess which format porn chose in the VHS versus Betamax debate. If you think there will be a winner in the race, I'd put my cash on the less expensive format that the adult filmmakers like more.

Choose wisely. :-)

but really
