We are using the Business pack at work and I do not see that much of a change. Hardware that works one day doesn't work the next, programs that are suppost to work don't and those that are not suppost to work do. Pretty much the same thing as always....STAY AWAY FROM NEW RELEASES FROM MICROSOFT!!!
NOT ONLY IS IT AN OVER PRICED SERVICE PACK BUT IT IS A SERVICE PACK THAT MOST PEOPLE INCLUDING ME NEED A NEW SYSTEM JUST TO USE! SO WHY PAY $1000 OR MORE FOR SOMETHING THAT I DOUBT IS ANYMORE COMPATABLE WITH THE REST OF THE IT WORLD THAN IE7 IS? AND I DO NOT NEED SOMETHING THIS COSTLY THAT WILL TURN ON ME THE MINUET IT IS INSTALLED THE WAY IE7 DID AND I AM SURE IT WOULD BE BIGGER PAIN TO FIX.
Hi.
Any idea on how long we got till we have to go Vista?
I have been running XP Professional for a while now - Vista is nothing more than a prettier XP with so-called media enhancements. I agree with CNET that Vista is just a software patch that could have been applied to XP, except that Microsoft got greedy again. I already have all the security programs I need to surf the internet safely, why do I want to spend another $200 on a product that will in no doubt, have its own issues very shortly.
If I go with another OS, it will be Linux so I can say goodbye to Microsoft forever. Fedora is looking more and more appealing, and with open source software, everyone benefits. With Windows, you're stuck having to bow to the likes of Microsoft.
Mic:
When Someone Comes Out With A Newer Version Everyone Gets Gay & Happy. I Have 2 2006 e-machines (XP). My Neighbor next Door Just Bought New Dell Inpsiron 530 s. It's Real Nice With Flat screen & Nice keyboard & Mouse. But, The Things I Want Like Easy Disk Clean Up & Disk Defragmenter & Standard (XP) Feartures. It's Like Your Stuck In A Maze Using )Vista). At Least I Can Control My Computer using (XP). I Know (XP) From Front To Back, Compared To Vista I Feel Like A Lost Child In The Woods. If! They make Something Better It Should Be Eazy To Use And Maintain As Well. When I Get New Computer They Will Probrably Install (Vista) BUt, I Will Miss (XP) Like It Was My First Girlfriend I Lost My Virginity Too.
LONG LIVE WINDOWS XP
Here Is My Blog http://elpaso95.wordpress.com
My fervor for Microsoft updates was lost when the company became so intensely restrictive regarding loading their software on multiple machines. The "one license, one machine" concept does not sit well with me as I have upgraded my systems much more frequently than my software. Also I am currently running two desktops and four laptops so the cost of upgrading is steep. I am very satisfied with the performance I have from XP Pro and the Office Suite I am running and I have no desire to line the pockets of Bill Gates with more of my money just to give him another boost in sales.
Thats not just MS. Thats all software that is not shareware/freeware. If you have say roxy or any game installed on one pc and olny own one pc you are running illeagal
Why update when over the last 28 years, since 1979, every Windows OS, has been junk when it first came out. If you have have Windows XP, Save your money.
The Only Reason MS is charging $200 for an upgrade vs a Windows XP Service Pack Instead is MONEY. IT'S MONEY FOR MS, nothing for Home Users.
Save your money! For $400 - $600 you can get a cheap computer, with VISTA if you have to have it. MS cares about 2 things only -- MONEY & THEMSLEVES --- NOT YOU.
I'm just amazed at how people that have never tried vista or even realy seen it runniong on a pc are slamming it. I as a tester i have installed it on many makes and models with little to know issues. I have even installed it on a few 5 year old pc's. The biggest issue i have found is it being a new os' just like any new os's there may not be drivers for certain hardware at that time. Look at Creative labs, the biggest manufacturer of sound cards. As og yesterday they still do not have a fully function driver for vista. It is not MS job to make sure every piece of hardware works. Linux has many issue also lack of drivers, software compatibilty, bugs, hacker. If linux was the big guy out there then everyone would be slamming them
You may be rght that some people here have not used it. I, for one, have, during the beta testing, and I have to say that it was very slow for me on a 1.5Ghz laptop with 1Gig RAM. However, I think most people are slamming it mainly because it offers little of any real use over XP and costs a lot.
As for your comment about Linux, you may be right, but then you're not being asked to shell out a single penny for Linux.
Lets be honest, it's horses for courses and if you like Vista and want to pay the money then enjoy. If you like Linux despite it being a bit more difficult to maintain sometimes then great. It's just that many people, including myself, dont't quite see the payoff with Vista. I certainly didnt have a good experience with it but that's just me and my own opinion.
How does that make him a MS sympathizer? He openly said that he tested Vista when it was in Beta stage and was impressed with it. Just get over the Mac fanboydom...he has a point about driver compatibility.
Really I'm sick of Mac fanboys being paid by Steve Jobs to downplay Microsoft whenever they have the chance...come on guys...
More Microsoft promises of easier, more productive computing. ********!!! I've had every version of Windows released, and I'd guess my productivity has lessened with each. I just got a new computer a few months ago with 2 gig memory, dual 120G SATA HDs,...etc. I was hoping that my previous one just wasn't powerful enough to keep up with XP Pro. Nope! Same daily problems, with Windows slowing down to a crawl at times, almost daily crashes (with a Windows advisory message that Winfax has caused the problem. I haven't had Winfax on a computer for 4 years!!!) Let's face it. Windows is the same bloated pig of software that it has been for a decade! The only way this crap will ever work right is if they build it from the ground up. (Oh! That's right,...XP was"new", wasn't it)
But, Windows is the only game in town if you have work to do! My Mac doesn't crash, but the look is cartoonish, and many of the operations are not as well developed as Win. And, Linux? Does everything well,.. but most of it's productivity packages lack a lot of basic features still.
I HATE Windows, but I'll keep using it a long as I have to. But a newer Windows with more "sugar coating"? Just more things to slow it down. I'm sure by the time the next "new" release is out, I'll have to upgrade because my software won't work. Until then, BG won't get any more of my $$$$.
bizarre
Do you have an antivirus software, AND a antispyware software? If you don't, give them a shot and see what it can detect...or get scans online from Symantec.com.
At least as far as the lower end systems (the bottom 2) are concerned. With regard to the higher end systems (the top 3), I will wait until at least 1 revision has passed. At the moment, there are too many bugs in this system to make it worth buying.
I may well get the XP Pro upgrade, this will keep me going until 2008 or later, then, maybe, I'll see what is happening with Vista, but to upgrade now - well it's just an espensive SP3!!
