Also check video out selections on laptop keys!

by MultiMuse - 1/12/07 6:57 AM In reply to: Connecting a laptop to a TV by sdub

Also, most modern laptops which have video out port(s) for external monitors/TV, have on their keyboard some way to select between built in LCD display, external video out, or both at same time. Often this is toggled with some Fn key combo, indicated by alternate color markings on some of the keys (number keys, F keys, or whatever). Look for those and try to find option for both displays first. If not, opt for the default internal LCD screen first and quickly toggle it to video out at the appropriate moment when the bootup POST allows you to do that control. If you consistently see no external video on TV, but always the laptop's LCD internal screen, then you may be neglecting to do the combo key switching. (many people never notice those alternate key switch markings on their laptops)

FYI-Gatewat laptop, Pentium 4,3.06GHZ, 512RAM. It's a pretty solid, normal laptop I've had for a while.

Ok, so I went to my local electronics store (radioshack) and I picked up 2 cords. One was the monitor cord ( on the back you should see a plug in for your monitor port ) and one audio cord for the headphone jack.

When I plugged both in and both onto my tv, I powered up my tv and laptop, I right-click on my laptop and then I click GRAPHIC OPTIONS. Second I will select output to MONITOR.

That's pretty much it. I mean it's really not worth it. I went through all this hassle and after I had it on my TV I was like eh. Nothing special. And not to boast or be cocky, but I have a samsung 1080P dlp hdtv, and it really wasn't that great when I plugged it in. I did it mainly to play video games, but it felt weird to me. Like I need to sit at my regular desk to play games on. But hey if you want to, go for it

Yeah I did sort it eventually. The lead has to be plugged in for it to register. I really wanted it to watch downloaded films on. It works pretty well for that actually.

That's one hard to read post.

Next time try both upper and lowercase plus break it up with paragraphs.

Is it now possible w/ the DVD recorder that I’ve, to now record the image that is feeding from the Comp. to the TV. B/C in essence I can record( with DVD recorder) TV. If SO How? I’ve been unsuccessful

Inspiron 6400 s-video to scart

by werena_song - 7/22/07 12:54 PM In reply to: Try an S-Video to Composite Video adapter... by DouginSC

I have an Inspiron 6400 and bought an s-video to scart lead and plugged it in the back of my sony LCD tv, but no joy. If I hit the FN+F8 key it said that I wasn't connected to anything so it didn't seem to pick up any connection at all... do you think it might be my cable? Or maybe I need to upgrade my drivers?

Any ideas would be warmly received!!
