Help connecting PS3 to Receiver/DVD player w/ no HDMI input

by taxhelp_2000 - 1/14/07 2:39 PM

I have a HDTV, PS3, and a Sony DreamSystem (combo home theatre/DVD player).

To take advantage of the 1080 and Blueray coming from the PS3, I need to use HDMI (correct?), however I want the PS3 sound to go through the Sony DreamSystem (especially for Blueray movies). Any ideas on how to achieve this, the Sony Dreamsystem does not have an HDMI input.

Does the 'dreamsystem' have an optical port? Then run the PS3 HDMI to tv

yes it does. TV has just one HDMI, so if I get a HDMI

switch box and put the PS3 and Dreamsystem HDMI's into the switchbox and the then run the single HDMI from the switchbox to the TV and then run the optical to the Dreamsystem, I will get the Dreamsystem sound and the HDTV video when I use the PS3?

Thanks for your help.

Pricy way to go

a quick look around & HDMI S.B. are pricy. Run a component from the DreamSYS to the tv, run the PS3 hdmi to the tv & then PS3 Opitic to the dreamSyS for sound.
