Ok, i've become quite accustomed to shooting down buying a cheap HDTV made by a brand I probably shouldn't trust but holy crap: http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Polaroid-42-Plasma-HDTV-PLA-4248/sem/rpsm/oid/160282/catOid/-12869/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do
It's a 42" friggin plasma TV for $900! That's really freakin tempting. Is Polaroid a brand to avoid? Does this thing suck? It just seems to good to be true.
From what I hear its not really a Polaroid. Its just that it has their badge on the front. Its comprised of a whole host of generic inernals to make it as cheap as possible. I saw one in the store at Circuit City and giggled at the way it had these horizontal bands floating in and out of the picture. It kinda looked like looking through a screen door. I think that for 900 its probably just about what you would expect given that everyone else wants 2500 or more for that.
Go for it! Tell us how it turns out.
Look at the reviews on the Circuit City site. Lots of people not too thrilled with the set. Compare it to the Panasonic 42" set. Pretty much 5's across the board for picture. Have seen the Pannys for not a lot nore than that price.
PANASONIC, PHILIPS, or PIONEER.
$900.00 piece of trash .......POLAROID!!!
river.
Note that the TV was originally $1500, then went into outlet and that's why your saving $500 to pay $1000, and then there is a $100 rebate.
Polariod isn't a brand to stay away from. Their TVs are generally nothing to get excited about and dont have a host of bells and whistles, just average. Similar to that Vizio brand.
As one of the previous replies said, the customer reviews aren't so great. Generally I'd stay out of the outlet sections of electronic retailers when shopping for a TV unless you absolutely need one, and I'm not so sure that's the case with a 42" HDTV.
