I have been wondering how to tell if a PC has USB 1.0 or USB 2.0? I have looked at several machines and I am not sure which is which, I would assume that newer model PCs have USB 2.0 but how does 1 tell for sure?
Look in device manager and see if the usb driver already installed and you see "enhanced usb", then you got usb2.
New computers should have USB 2.0. It will be indicated in the product specifications.
Greets Anvil1021,
Assuming you are running XP, the easiest way to determine if your port is version 1 or 2 is to slip a version 2 device into the port. Most USB memory sticks are 2.0 now. Cost is cheap. It'll likely still work, just not as fast as a 2.0 stick.
If the port you plug it into is version 1, XP will identify the device as a 2.0 device, and pop up an info box off the taskbar telling you that the device will work faster if you plug it into a USB 2.0 port, and offer to search for one for you.
Cheers.
