How do I determine if I have USB 1.0 or USB 2.0?
by anvil1021 - 1/12/07 6:37 AMI have been wondering how to tell if a PC has USB 1.0 or USB 2.0? I have looked at several machines and I am not sure which is which, I would assume that newer model PCs have USB 2.0 but how does 1 tell for sure?

Assuming you are running XP, the easiest way to determine if your port is version 1 or 2 is to slip a version 2 device into the port. Most USB memory sticks are 2.0 now. Cost is cheap. It'll likely still work, just not as fast as a 2.0 stick.
If the port you plug it into is version 1, XP will identify the device as a 2.0 device, and pop up an info box off the taskbar telling you that the device will work faster if you plug it into a USB 2.0 port, and offer to search for one for you.
