Not everyone/everything is ready for IE7

by Shaun Egan - 1/12/07 9:43 AM In reply to: Do you use Internet Explorer 7? by Marc Bennett Moderator

Our office received word from our tax-support company that we needed to upgrade to IE7. Wisely, this was only done on one PC as a test. As soon as we did, a few other programs began acting quirky, balking, or failing to run at all.

By reverting back to IE6, the problems disappeared. There was no apparent connection between the two at first glance, but it was IE7 that was at fault. After all this, we discovered that the upgrade to IE7 wasn't really needed by the tax-support company - they just wanted us to be prepared.

Be prepared to revert to IE7, should these types of issues pop up for you.

NO & I NEVER WILL

I have WinME. Since WinME is no longer supported, I have no way to download IE7!

Gave it a shot...

by Davea95 - 1/12/07 10:16 AM In reply to: Do you use Internet Explorer 7? by Marc Bennett Moderator

But I'm unimpressed. For starters, when I first had it installed, I would get errors anytime I tried to close the browser. Ridiculous. Those went away with an update, but still -- why ship like that?

Beyond that, I'm sure that I could learn to love IE7, but at this point it's simply too late. My entire browser experience has become FF dependent. Everything from my plugins to where everything is positioned on the screen to the keyboard shortcuts. It all makes sense to me and I can browse with FF completely effortlessly.

If I wasn't so happy with FF, I'd be willing to re-learn something else (I tried this with Opera for awhile because it offered the ability to remember your tabs when re-opening the program, as well as the ability to close individual tabs w/o selecting them first), but until FF does something to really frustrate me, I have no reason to bother.

Goodbye IE, hello FF!

Online university problems with IE7

by Seacoaster - 1/12/07 10:47 AM In reply to: Do you use Internet Explorer 7? by Marc Bennett Moderator

I am taking classes at SDSU thru the internet.
The university uses ILRN (I learn) and WebCT interface protocol software for testing and lectures.

When I upgraded to IE7, the testing features were not accessable anymore. I was on the phone with the school half a day trying to get it to work, and I had to take MY FINAL that day!

The problem...IE7.

I AM THRU WITH IE7.

The removal of IE7 back to IE6 gave me just enough time to take my final - thanks for stressing me out Microsoft

Yeah

But it's still not a patch on Frefox. Hellishly slow due to this anti-phishing thing (I think that's what's slowing it down).
Firefox is still my main browser, but you know, you need IE for ActiveX and other MS stuff. Haven't they infringed some sort of copyright or patent with Firefox?

IE7's jitters are contagious ! : b

by auralae - 1/12/07 11:06 AM In reply to: Do you use Internet Explorer 7? by Marc Bennett Moderator

So, been using IE since it came out didn't really have much of a problem until this IE7 came out. For some reason anytime I click on the address bar it begins to shake and jitter as if it needs a fix of some sort of virtual highly addictive drug! LOL When it jitters it also over uses the CPU up to 100%. Why? Well, maybe the June Bug that everyone is accustomed to. Anyways, I liked the idea of the tabs but they ask you to wait until a page loads before you can switch between tabs, although you can just double-click and you can go right through. On the basis of the jitters I decided to change to FireFox. So far so good! Question. Which plug-ins do you guys recommed for FF?

Thank you all !

Why?

by arthurdent3 - 1/12/07 11:24 AM In reply to: Do you use Internet Explorer 7? by Marc Bennett Moderator

I really have no need to use IE7 I don't even use IE6 unless I have to (for some work websites and testing). I use Firefox and love it. I use Linux on my home machine so of course Firefox is my browser there, but even on my work laptop I use Firefox and basically block IE from any internet traffic ( either through the firewall or by setting the proxy to localhost) so that I am not at risk.
I set up IE7 for testing at work and my first impression was that why didn't MS just use Firefox and put there name in it. I then noticed the differences. For one the Menu on top was gone, and turning it on was easy but to get it on top was another story. I can't believe how or why the people at MS would not make it possible to put the menu on top where almost every program in existence has it. I searched MS for an answer an didn't find any. I then found a site that explains what registry settings need to be changed in order to be moved back to where it belongs(not a good answer).
My overall experience is that I am not impressed and the biggest security problem with IE6(activeX) still exists in IE7.
So my question to the people who enjoy IE7 is that if you like the way it looks and feels then why not try using Firefox which is very similar and more secure.
Thanks
Tom

I like it

by redondo5000 - 1/12/07 11:43 AM In reply to: Do you use Internet Explorer 7? by Marc Bennett Moderator

I tweaked it a little to see my links, and had to spend a while getting used to where things are, but I like it. I switched back to 6 after the initial scare about 7, but switched back to 7 cause I missed the tabs and the way Favorites display. Iiiiiiii-like it!

But can you play video trailers and what add-ons did you have to install?

Post 101 of 180

Yes I can play trailers

by redondo5000 - 1/12/07 3:18 PM In reply to: IE7 by knittinbren

If you can't I would think it's because you don't have QuickTime or RealPlayer. Anyway - the answer to your question is yes..

Back to IE6

by jimgreene - 1/12/07 12:25 PM In reply to: Do you use Internet Explorer 7? by Marc Bennett Moderator

I am not that savvy when it comes tothis stuff but after I upgraded to IE7 on our main home computer if you logged in as my wife you had to do a CTRL-ALT-DEL to shut down a page. If you logged in as me it was fine. When I put it on our laptop it could not find our wireless network anymore. Could find the neighbors secure one but not mine. Problems may not have been related to IE7, like I said I am not too savvy, but the issues all arouse within 24 hours of upgrading to IE7. Then when I tried a restore on the laptop to remove IE7 it would not take. After a home visit by a computer guru and $150 IE7 was removed and the laptop and main computer are working fine again.

IE 7 Uninstall

by swathingscientist - 1/12/07 12:34 PM In reply to: Do you use Internet Explorer 7? by Marc Bennett Moderator

Contrary to what I've read here, there is no problem whatsoever with uninstalling IE 7 and reveerting back to IE 6.0.
Delete from add/remove program,re-boot computer and IE 6.0 is there.
Have done so already,no restore point required.Nothing.
Seems like fear and scare tactics are afoot here but then, just my opinion having deleted the IE 7 myself.
Any updates, hotfixes that were bypassed by MS scan previously will be there next time puter is scanned or will appear in systray ready to be downloaded/installed.
