ATT/Yahoo DSL ads on homepage
by alexander420 - 1/12/07 7:32 AMI have been using ATT/Yahoo (SBC/Yahoo) DSL service for about four years now. Recently they have placed ads on my homepage (Chili's and Netflix). I use an ATT/Yahoo homepage that is part of the service I pay for - not a Yahoo free homepage. Is this wrong? Wasn't Netzero started by providing free/discounted service in exchange for sevice?
Can someone tell me if other providers are doing this? Comcast is my cable option if I switch someday. Thanks.

I have an old AT&T/Prodigy dial-up account that I keep open for the kid's use. I use Comcast cable for my PCs on my home network. I do like the AT&T home page so I access it from my Comcast connection. You just go to that page, log in with your username and password and you're there. But you can use any home page you like.
FireFox browser (2.x) has a neat little utility built in called AdBlock. When you open a web page that has an ad on it there will be a little tab on the ad. Click it and the ad goes away. Neat.

by jordanair60 - 1/19/07 5:09 PM In reply to: ATT/Yahoo DSL ads on homepage by alexander420I think one thing you need to know is Yahoo owns that web portal page.. you only pay for the DSL service .. yahoo is the content provider side of the ATT ISP equation.. all of the yahoo features except for email is provided as an extra. I may have been the agent you spoke to on this issue (remote chance). This is a portal page that you have some customization ability with it but the page is Yahoo's. As one of the other members noted you do not have to use the Yahoo browser it is only an extra you can use firefox, or any of the other browsers out there. As far as the Att/Yahoo page Att has no control over that page yahoo does all the design on it, it's thier property just like the regular yahoo page. it's the same with amy ISP, to get around that you can get a hosted website that you build yourself then you can set it's content.

All of the ISPs do this, if you don't like it, change your home page to MSN. Thanks and Take Care. I also pay top dollar with Verizon Yahoo at $39.99 per month DSL.
