FYI. Nintendo Gamecube graphics are way better than ps2. Just compare resident evil 4 for GC and PS2, and GC's graphics owned ps2. The WII's graphics capability is 2.5 times stronger than a GC. That's like 4 times better than a PS2. Comparing it to a psp? HAHAH @ U.
BTW...When it's less difficult to get a PS3 or a WII, I'm going to own both the systems.
Even though GC gave Nin fans many kicks, it was mediocre in marketshore
Wii is off to a very good start. I believe better availability would've given it a great start. I my 'guestimate' is at worse, it'll be in 3rd place again, but have good, sizeable marketshare. At average, it share the crown with either PS3 or 360, or at best, actually surpass the PS3 *OR* the 360 in marketshare by a modest amount.
Contrary to what some ppl may be saying, the DS is selling VERY WELL. It enjoys roughly the same amount (give or take) of popularity as the PS2.
Similar to PS2, a last gen-console, the GBA, a last gen handheld is still popular as well.
I love how people try to spout of opinion as fact. The Nintendo Wii is looking at twice the power of the GCN... It has more power than a PSP. What people fail to realize here is that graphics aren't everything when it comes to money. As it stands, Nintendo is making money on every Wii it sells. It has found a niche that Sony and Microsoft have yet to enter into. The Wii is selling so quickly because it is for the average gamer. Hardcore gamers can freak out about that all they want, but it doesn't mean that Nintendo hasn't hit gold.
Just because Nintendo sought to add others to the videogame experience doesn't mean its excluding you... Legend of Zelda: TP is by far the best game I've ever played. 70 hours of gameplay, amazing story, astounding action, fun puzzles, and the use of the Wii controller to control your character are a winning combination.
However, if you're not a hardocre gamer, like 95% of the world, then you are going to want something a little different. Nintendo has reached out to this audience with the DS and the Touched SEries and now they are doign so with the Wii.
No it may not be as powerful, but the 95% of the world hardcore gamers don't give a hoot about amazing graphics and high definition. They just want to have a fun experience. Enter games like Raving Rabbits, Wii sports, and trauma center. Unique games that you can't get any where else but Nintendo.
Nintendo has struck gold. They have found a way to make a cheap affordable console that is going to sell more games to a wider audience than microsoft and ps3.
10 bucks (not really) that ps3 and microsoft come out with an "easier" to use controller to try and get into Nintendo's market within the next two years.
first the ps2 is BORING now the only reason it sold was because it could play dvds BIG WUP the dreamcast was awesome and well ahead of its time I the if sega focus themselves they can make a mint console who agrees contact me jimmywire1996@hotmail.co.uk
Once again you talk from pure opinion. The PS3 is not that big bodybuilder you describe(even though it's close) and the Wii is definetly not the puny little thing you say it is. The wii is an exelent machine. It focuses on gamepley not graphics. If nintendo felt like it, they would try on the graphics because it's....uh....NINTENDO!!! only one of the oldest gaming companies in the world!!! It just wanted to provide gamers with a good long-lasting system for a good price instead of a 600 dollar console. And they did a hell of a job.
The reason that PS3's motion sensor in the controller is not revolutionary is beacuse it doesn't work!!!!
If you research your stuff you will know that at E3, the PS3 trial sucked beacause in the matterr of 1 and a half the controller's "bluetooth" capabilities wore out and stoped working for a few minutes at a time, I've never heard of that happening to nintendo... And not to add that the PS3 had to diable it's vibration features because of it, so they lost 2 things by gaining one....
To be honost I'm an 18 year old senior in high school. I'm a serious gamer, and to be honost the competition between sony and ms is a no brainer to me. The better competition of the two is clearly on live, its a cleaner service and offers much more than the ps3. The ps3 layout is horrible everything on it looks almost last gen, at least the wii has a clean cool interface. To be honost I wasn't dissapointed with the ps3 though Resistance is cool not awesome like Gears of War, but I bought the system for Final Fantasy Metal Gear and Devil May Cry. I'm sure it'll have a couple more surprises, but until then I'm with the 360 for it competition and gamer points. The programmers of these systems say the 360 is far easier to code for thats why you see a better picture with the 360 and component cables than the ps3 with HDMI on the multi-platformers, the games just look better regardless of the monster the playstation 3 is. The wii is on a level of its own, I currently like the 360 much more but there are still many wii games to come and someone said the system is its controller. Completely true. But it is one hell of a controller and though the games so far don't have the depth of traditional games, they're just fun...except redsteel...that game sucks....personal opinion though. So for now I'd recommend a 360 and a wii, and I completely disagree with whoever said that sony is dead. They have enough fanboys to make it through one less than par system, they'll only die if they continue to copy every move of the other major companies. BTW nintendo the nintendo 15% thing is inaccurate also if you wanna see sales here you go http://www.forbes.com/markets/2006/12/08/sony-nintendo-microsoft-markets-equity-cx_mk_1208markets03.html forbes.com nintendo microsoft sony. There you have it what the people think.
I have all three units, so far none of them has disappointed me. I love Gears of War, Call of Duty 3 for the Wii, and Marvel Ultimate Alliance for the PS3.
In a way, depending on what games you like, PS3's motion sensor sucks, it is clumsy, and not as accurate as the Wii. However, what I like about the PS3 is I can still play my favorite PS1 and PS2 games. The Xbox 360 and PS3's FPS games are great as far as quality. The gameplay is okay, the Wii's gameplay on FPS or shooter games is much better since it is pretty much aim and fire. The Xbox 360 has a nicer online interface, and can play music from an iPod. The Wii's Menu is very nicely layed out and user friendly. The PS3's menu has a more contemporary style to it, but it is okay.
Now to talk about the consoles. Here are my pros and cons:
Pros:
Nintendo Wii:
- The gameplay is better on the Wii for shooter, driving, and flying games.
- User friendly menu, with a nice relaxing background music
- You can download and play old games from NES, SNES, N64, SegaGenesis, and Turbografx16.
- You can view the weather all over the world with Wii Weather Forecast.
- You can browse the internet through Wii Internet Browser by Opera
- You can let your Mii run rampid all over cyberspace visting other Wii consoles.
- Can play favorite Gamecube games
- It is a console on its own.
- The Wii is fun to play for both serious, and casual gamers.
- Small, compact, lightweight
- Has a rumble feature
- Gameplay is interactive and intuitive
- Has SD Card Slot
- Good party console.
Cons:
- No USB ports
Sony Playstation 3:
Pros:
- You can download game demos and old PSP and PSX games
- You can brows the internet
- Great Graphics and speed
- The controller is the traditional Playstation style controller. It is also more responsive than the X360 controllers.
- Limited motion sensor
- Great game for hardcore gamers or casual gamers
Cons:
- The console is big and heavy
- Price tag is high
- Not alot of games out yet
- Controller disconnects alot when booting up PS1 and PS2 games.
- No rumble feature.
Xbox 360:
Pros:
- Mid range price
- Good graphics
- Has enough games around to keep you entertained
- Will play most Xbox games
- Wireless Controllers
- 5 USB ports 4 in the front 1 in the back
- XBOX Live is user friendly
- Smaller than PS3
- Removeable faceplate
- Can connect and play music from iPod
- Ergonomic controls
- Has rumble feature
Cons:
- Requires adapter for older XBOX memory cards
- Required 3rd party hardware to transfer old data files from XBox HDD to 360 HDD.
- Controls are not as responsive as PS3 or Wii
- No motion sensor.
some further generic bullet points
Wii has USB ports, but time will tell if those USB ports will receive the drives to accomodate stuff like a camera, ipod, or ext hd
360
hd req for XB1 games
If you want the best games right now, then the answer is simple = Xbox 360.
If you want fun games for the kids, then the answer is simple = Wii.
If you want the best everything and a are prepared to be patient = PS3.
I decided to get the PS3. Because at the end of the day, it is simply the most powerful console. The games suck right now (with the exception of Resistance) - but what do you expect less than 2 months after launch.
This is what people forget: Processer > 2x more powerful than 360's; Graphics card is better; storage media >5x Xbox 360.
You cannot argue with those numbers. Even when Xbox releases the new version (which won't be for several years at least), its hard to imagine how much better it can be.
So yes, the PS3 is expensive....but the 360 is not that much cheaper once you add Wi-Fi, HD-DVD (if you want it). I like High Def and PS3 comes with it.....Blu Ray has the numbers on HD-DVD right now and I think the lead will extend.
So in the end the PS3 is the most powerful and future proof system available. That makes the decision pretty easy for me. The biggest downside, is waiting for the good games to come.
If this is a battle depending a "time horizon" then the time horizon will be years! Sure the PS3 has much larger storage disc capacity but what are they using that for???
Any developer can easily fit a game into an XBOX disc. PS3 does not need all of that space.
The graphics...I've you've played both consoles...are the same. What possoble difference do you see? I've played them both, with the same game. They look the same. Period.
Processor?? What processor is more powerful than an the XBOX processor? The PS3 processor cannot offer more power than the 360's(right now) because they don't know how to use it. But the same is the case with the 360(usibg only 25% of it's power)
There is no best EVERYTHING for the PS3...and you are underestimating the Wii by far. Not to mention, the PS3 is Sony's blue ray thing....have you seen teir stocks? Sony is falling. and the PS3 will only help in that downfall. Give it time. Remeber that the XBOX is always an easily upgradable system, ps3 will stay like it is.
Sales already indicate that the Wii is fun for kids *AND* adults.
Saying the PS3 is the best b/c it has the numbers used to be like saying back in 2000-2, Intel processors are better than AMD b/c the clockspeed and numbers are up there. Not so. Talks of the town say the architecture lends the 360 to have superior performance in some cases, so saying best "best of everything" is simply not true.
Devs agree the PS2 was a ***** to program for. The Cell will be severely worse than that b/c behind all that high tech glitter, it also is not dev friendly. Give it several years at least for high quality games to MAYBE go retail. If so, $80 MSRP for games may not be uncommon
So in the end the PS3 is the most powerful and future proof system available
Remember past powerful systems like Game Gear, Lynx, NeoGeo, Jaguar, and Dreamcast? If you do, then I don't even need to provide URLs to their profiles let alone explain it to you.
360 can get HD on DVD. PS3 makes you pay the premium for BD for pretty much the same quality.
Who cares about the systems. They are all good. Its kind of like buying a car. each car is good in their own way. I actually have the three consoles. I don't think one is better than the other. all systems will have popular games that will be exclusive to one of the systems.
the xbox 360 is good for the content you can download and the amount of games but you do have to buy all these accessories to get the mos out of it. you can play old xbox games but not that much. I still had to keep my old xbox.
the ps3 is able to upgrade the hard drive, has blu-ray and you can transfer files. it can play most of the old games. I got rid of my ps2. it also has free online gaming.
the wii is a pretty fun system. the graphics are not that bad. not high definition but good with the component cables. I like the built in wireless. he virtual console is a plus. the games look better than on the original systems on an HDTV. most of the gamecube games are compatible. I also sold my gamecube.
I may have not given a good argument and may have posted the same boring stuff as other people but my point is that they are all good. who cares about which one is better. I think that people who start hating on a system is just jealous that they can't afford to buy the rest of them. Yeah they are expensive but they come out in different times and they do go down in price eventually.
I agree with dgj2301 on this one, all the consoles are really good, i have played with all 3, and, have decided that, for the time being, the systems to get are the 360 and the wii. The ps3 is really good, but is hasnt built up that much of a game-base, wait a year for the games to get better and for sony to smooth out the bugs, and the ps3 might just be leading the pack
I currently own a 360 and a PS3 right now, but I will also be purchasing a Wii eventually (hopefully before the end of this month), but a huge con for the Wii that hasn't been mentioned in your post is how the Wii has a horrible game library so far. Don't get me wrong, the PS3 game line-up is equally bad if not worse, but as far as games go, the only games I will buy and want to buy for the Wii for the rest of this year are:
1. Legend of Zelda
2. Wario Ware
3. Super Smash Brothers Brawl
4. Super Mario Galaxy
And that's seriously all I want or am interested in, but when you look at the PS3, there are a lot of exclusive and port titles that are coming out which interest me. I know Nintendo is focusing away from the violence/gore when it comes to their competitors, but I said this at the end of the 64 era and I'll keep saying it, "Based on their current market strategy when it comes to their games, Nintendo will eventually lose the console war if they don't revamp quickly, and it won't matter what kind of crazy innovations they keep bringing out." Once again, it's all about the game library, and in keeping track with current society trends when it comes to games, violence, gore, mature content sells and all the other stuff is just trying to keep up. Until that changes, Nintendo won't become the dominant leader in the gaming industry, and that's assuming they survive another console generation.
as much as i would like to agree with you, seeing as i have an xbox 360 along with a PS2, i just cant see sony going out of business, they just have too big of a fan base. Afterall, the PS2 did sell over 100 million consoles while the xbox sold about 20 million. Also the ps3 is loaded with features, even though some of them just havent caught on yet. personally, im hoping that sony does go out of business, but as punishment. I was hoping to buy a ps3 as soon as the 360 came out, so i waited, but as soon as i learned about the 600 dollar price point, i hastened to buy a 360. Sony really disappointed me this time around.
