I just bought my motorola KRZR for Alltel; I've uploaded my mp3s to this phone with no problems- but i was assuming that I could set these mp3s as ringtones and it seems that I cannot figure out how.
Can this even be done? If so, could anyone point me in the direction of where i can learn, or if someone could tell me... it would be greatly appreciated!
thanks so much!

...and, if anyone can help Meagan, I've been trying to figure out how to do this on a ROKR. Any help there?
ok well the rokr is simple... u just take your usb cord, and take the ringtone that you want.. and go to my computer.. and then click on ringtones.. and place the music into there.. then after disconnecting it go to setting, then media, then to sounds and it should be saved in your memory card!
The reason why you can't set it is because your phone is locked. If you purchase your phone from a provider such as Rogers or Telus they block the feature of uploading mp3 songs and setting them as ringtones. They want you to spend 3.00 for a ringtone that might not even have the part of the song you like.
Sorry to tell you, but you need to purchase the songs you want to set as ringtones.
I have a K1m From Verison and all my info is based on the Verizon Wireless K1m, probably still locked, since that’s one thing I don’t know how to do.
Mp3 as ringtone- you can use an mp3 file as a ringtone, with a few qualifiers: the mp3 must be under 20 seconds, and I think there is a bitrate ceiling too, i’ve been using 96 and the music is very clear. There are plenty of shareware mp3 editors that will allow you to trim and recode your mp3’s to fit. Once you have your mp3 file, email it to (yournumber)@vzwpix.com. when you get it on your phone, click Options and then Save Sound. the mp3 should appear in your My Ringtones folder now, and you can set it as a ringtone, but you have to have the vibrate feature off or it dosen't work for some reason.
good luck CNS
I use Motorola Phone Tools to download mp3s to my KRZR. Once there, apply as ringtone. No problems here! Very easy.
awesome! thank you!!
Hi everyone here is a guide that will allow you to bypass all the stuff the stupid service providers have locked on us.

Does this solution work for telus phones or specific phone services?
It worked. I have tried so many things lately with negative results, and now I have my favorite ringtone in my Krzr k1m. And I happened to be at Circuit City yesterday and the Verizon guy said to me that there was no way to unlock the code without buying their Music Essentials Kit, well there you have it.
Yo dude! I decided to just go ahead and try my idea. It worked perfectly! It wasn't hard and now I have like 10 ringtones that Verizon thinks came with the phone! This is so awesome! Here's what I did:
1. Use a ringtone make I downloaded to cut my mp3s down.
2. Send all my little clips to a 2G flash drive.
3. Go to the laptop.
4. Follow the instructions on the site using the laptop.
5. Then I got my ringtones like that *snaps fingers*!
Thanks a million,
Big PaPa J
how do u do the first step? and wuts a flash drive?
This thing seems like it will work for me but my computer is being stupid and can't see my phone. I have a K1m from Verizon and am wondering if this same program will work with a laptop. The laptop has Vista so I'm not sure if it will work or not. Someone help me Please!!!
Thank You,
Big PaPa J
Finally it works. I highly recommend this approach. This method cuts right through the layers of BS service providers cake on to phones. They deliberately make technology crappier to make you pay money for crappy software which is supposed to undo the crappiness.
