digital camera

by qwert213 - 11/3/06 10:16 PM

Hello, i am interested in filming and editing on the computer, nothing to major, i am a senior in highschool and looking for a cheap but reliable camera to use to start filming [plan to make things from stop-motion to live action with animation] i got about 200-250$ to spend, was looking at the SVP camera's with there many features, but i doubt it's quality and durability, any suggestions?
I don't know how long i will be checking this post out, so if you could email me at Malevolentdung@aol.com aswell as this, or one or the other, it would be great.
Thanks.

budget is, you will be limited... Be careful of vendor pricing that "looks too good to be true" (because it probably is)...

Take a look at the Panasonic PV-GS39...

If you know how to buy on eBay, check for a decent used

camera. Be sure you know how to check feedback, and how to get a refund from eBay if the buyer doesn't deliver.

NEVER buy new cameras, or anything else which is new, on eBay. You will always pay more than the item is actually worth.

DO NOT BUY SVP CAMERAS!

I recently bought on ebay via Lindas Camera World an svp 2400 camcorder

here is the link : http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140058639737

The camcorder was NOTHING that the advertisement said.

Here are the problems :

1) the photos were not 12MP, not even 2MP in my opinion;
2) the photos had a blue shaddy colour on them, changing settings put another colour shading with worst results;
3) the LCD screen had dots all over it;
4) there is NO WAY on earth that you can connect your camcorder to your computer. I got Windows XP Pro. My computer did not even always notice it is there and the drivers on the CD-ROM dont work. Not even the drivers on the website work, not to mention there were not drivers of my specific camcorder so I tried the nearest ones;
5) no use to contact SVP for anything, I tried both email and on-website tecnical form, nothing;
6) no way it will make 6 hours straight film (that is if you buy a big enough memorycard), maximum 1 hour after 8 hours charging the battery;
7) the shop were you buy it from, in my case Lindas Camera World, does not help you in any way. The way they help you is that they suggest you pay more to "upgrade" your item and then when you face them with direct questions, they just say its your fault-great customer care;
8) I payed express travelling for my item and clearance of payment on 30th November. It arrived on 26th December. No one takes blame;
9) the sound is not hearable at all, the little you hear is garbled;
10) not even the photo and video applications on the CD-ROM can see the camera;
11) there are settings on the manual that does not exist in the camera and vice-versa;
12) the LCD screen in the dark is BLANK! You cannot see anything in the dark so you cannot target;
13) the flash gives a "shocking" white colour to the picture, good for halloween but nothing else;
14) the videos are very dark and I tried it also in broad daylight in a field.

There are probably more but I forgot them.
I tried all possible settings combinations for 3 hours and wrote them all down so be sure I do not try something twice but still nothing good.

I got all the comversations between me and Lindas Camera World saved, first they say they wanna help you then they become rude when faced with direct questions and say its my fault that I did not know what I was buying.

Its your FAULT! You made false advertising. NO WAY the camcorder looks like the one in the picture - NO WAY.
