When I turn on computer the file C:\programs\Windows Media Player comes up one my screen. Why? How can I stop this from happening? Thank you very much - lhendri479@aol.com
is ther a shortcut to it (or to a media file that wmp would play) in your startup directory?
There is no shortcut on my desktop for Windows Media. As far as what programs run when I startup, I have forgotten how to disable or enable programs on startup. There IS NOT an icon on my toolbar in the bottom right hand of my screen. I you could tell me what I really need - besides my antivirus - running I will do that. Right now, I jsut do not remember how to find out what programs run on startup and which ones don't. Thank you very much for helping me.
what's on your desktop but on what's in your 'startup directory', as you will see when you reread it. That's (in Windows XP) Start>All programs>Startup. Easy to check, easy to answer now.
To see everything that's run on startup: Start>Run>msconfig and go to the Startup tab.
Post your findings of both of this tasks, and we'll see if it shows the secret of media player running.

Start - All Programs - Startup - (EMPTY)
msconfig = Is there a way to copy and paste these items? Sure would be faster and easier. I tried to do that but it did not work. Yes, I really am a newbie, so please try to be patient. There is a lot of things that I do not know how to do yet. Thank you -
Here you go:
E_S412H1
igfxtray
hkcmd
igfxpers
AOL software
jusched
ccApp
os Check
smax4pnp
qttask
ctfmon
wmplugin
AOL
That's it. Thanks for any help.
I always look for the goofy things first, do you happen to have an audio cd in your cd-rom that media player is detecting when you boot up?
No CD anywhere in site
Open msconfig.
Click the Startup Tab.
Remove the check mark next to wmplugin.
Took your advice and --- HORRAY!!
Cannot thank you enough!!
