I have a room with hardwood floors that measures 60' by 16'. My hope was to use this as a party room, so I wanted to find speakers and a receiver that would fill the space with some good music. I have a budget of $1500 because I do not want to spend too much on a system used only for music.
I am currently thinking about a pair of Intimus 633-T Tower Speakers, a Infinity PS10 or PS12 subwoofer, and a HK 3480. Does anyone have suggestions for a nicer system? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
your budget is great and the speakers you chose will work just fine.
my concern is your hardwood floors. imagine a concert hall where a tiny bit of sound can easily travel across the room. you might get the same affect and if there are 100 people in the room talking at the same time with music playing...it might get a little out of hand.
go to a private dealer (or high end dealer)...aka not best buy or circuit city.......and tell them about the characteristics of your room. they might be able to do something for you and help with the acoustics of your room so your great speakers will sound even better.
There is almost an infinite quantity of speakers and components to choose from. So I don't even want to start here.
BUT, remember this: Someone who spends $3,000 on a system can end up with inferior sound to someone who spends $1,500 if they place the speakers in the wrong position or if they have a room which is not conducive to good sound.
You really want to go to a real professional. For example, I have wood floors....and someone once told me, that if you have wood floors you should consider front speakers which are placed on stands to help eliminate echo and sound reverberation. Also, in such a situation it is also worth considering placing a sub-woofer onto a rug to also help the situation. I don't know if this is accurate but considering the limitations of your room is equally as important as choosing the right components for the budget that you mentioned.
