Internet speeds up with different user profile

by captnbli - 1/3/07 7:55 PM

Hi,

I have a year-old laptop w Windows XP Pro SP2, Norton antivirus, no spyware program. I use Firefox 2 almost always.

Pages were painfully slow to load under my usual local admin profile while connected to the corporate network. Raw speed was the same as my neighbours, but pages just took ages to load. I have a FF profile set up to use the network proxy when connected to this network. Pages were also slow to load under IE (6). Straight network browsing seems a little slow under these circumstances but nothing out of the ordinary.

All is fine under this profile when using my wireless network card, or the network at home.

Now, I have logged on under a different (domain) profile and all is fine.

What could it be about my profile (that I would like to continue using) that could be causing this?

Thanks,
The Captain

That's the clue.

The proxy can't identify you and may be giving the cold shoulder. But it's a company network so sic the IT staffer on it. But then again why not just login and go?
