I recently installed Vista on my HP desktop, it runs fine with all the stuff on and everything. But it keeps going into sleep/hibernate mode every 2 minutes and it's really getting on my nerves. I have it dual booted with XP so I'm using that now. Can anybody help me fix this problem? It's annoying.
Thanks.
My specs:
HP Desktop
AMD Athlon XP 3000+
2.18 GHz, 512 MB of RAM
80 GB hdd (split, XP/Vista)
Nvidia GeForce GX5200 256mb video card
Nvidia GeForce *FX5200 256mb video card
Help, please?
Meanwhile turn off aero/glass. It should work OK until you get more memory.
Well it does run fine with that stuff installed. The video card seems to handle it. If I disable it, will it stop hibernating/sleeping?
Yes, it is working fine 'til it shuts down and restarts. Get more memory and then a better graphics card. If you explore these forums you will find the information that has already been addressed. Good luck and a happy New Year!
have you've tried disabling the sleeping option in control panel?
Yes I did. It solved the problem in XP but it hasnt done anything in Vista.
And I still don't see how now having sufficient ram/video card could make it go into sleep mode like that. I figure it would just crash or something.
When I first started to use Vista, I had problems with it when it wakes up from sleep. The screen just showed up stripes. Some other programs did the same thing when I used them. (ie VLC) But recently Vista installed an update for my Nvidia video card via Windows Update and it appears to be fine now. Since I never really need my computer to go into sleep, I just select the High Performance power settings plan and turn off sleep completely. And yeah, I don't see how upgrading ram/video card would help.
I did turn off Sleep mode in the power settings, and I set it to high performance as well. It still didn't remedy the problem though. Plus, it would probably go into sleep mode while I try to install the freakin' Nvidia update lol.
The only thing upgrading would do is make it faster. I don't really need an upgrade that badly cause it runs fine, but I can see it lagging in intense situations when a lot of windows are up.
Here's a short video of what keeps happening: http://media.putfile.com/vista-72
God I almost punched my computer.
Wow that is so weird and frustrating. Just curious what build is your Vista?
It's Vista Home Premium
