No built in cable card on new tv models

by hmelkon - 5/4/06 5:28 AM

I noticed in many of the new flat panel tv models that the manufacturers are replacing the older models with sets that do not have cable card built in as have the older models.
Is there a reason why this is so?

The cable card was not a popular feature since many were getting a cable box anyway. Buy dropping this thay save some $$$$ on each box. John

CABLE PROFIT

a cable card feature is a low on the list of priority for the manufactors because cable companies dont like them. along with losing the extra cable box charges, cable cards are only capable of one way communication. unlike a box, pay per view features are not accessiable with cable cards.

COMCAST charges nothing for CableCARD; but at least $8.99 for digital cable box per month. Cable wins again.

QAM tuner with no cable card info

by gabereyes - 5/4/06 8:07 PM In reply to: No built in cable card on new tv models by hmelkon

Qam tuner as of right now without a cable card you can hook up basic cable and get the local channels in HD, cable companys are trying to find a way to have a central cable box in the home that will let the cable company to control what channels you will recieve, also do a network DVR sevice with no harddrive, and send a QAM or ATSC signal to your TV via oldschool coix aka RF cable.

you should get a TV with ATSC and QAM tuner to be future ready.

hope this helps good luck.
