What do you people think the future of the Zune will be? The rumor is the Microsoft maybe planning to get a Superbowl commercial to create more buzz about their new product. I think it is a great advertising strategy, but if the commercial sucks the Zune will be dead because the Superbowl is the only time everybody pays attention to commercials so Microsoft needs to make a commercial stands out from the pack.
Post your comments whether negative or positive because I really do not care and whant to know what you people truly think about the Zune. Apple fanboys are welcome.
"Rejiggered Gigabeat."
If you look inside it, yup. but is that fair?
-> Microsoft ignored some big lessons. They made it dang hard to buy tunes for it.
Let's not mention WMP11 required WGA! My Windows 2000 doesn't qualify either. So that's another 99 to 199 bucks for the priviledge.
The Zune looks to have made a fine crater at it's launch pad.
Bob
than "Welcome to the Social". If they're doing a Superbowl commericial, that would be a good time to roll out the improved version of the Zune software/Marketplace, complete with videos and podcast (Zunecast?) support. Ooh, and take advantage of the really neat wifi - buy your songs and videos on the fly!!!(see super hip twentysomething dj transmit his favorite song to every Zune in the room, while playing it to the room - see super hip twentysomethings nod in agreement to the beat while they're buying it on their Zunes)
iPod has Bono, maybe Zune could have...Michael Jackson (uh...no)...Paris Hilton (?????)....Britney Spears (new and improved w/o K-Fed)....I give up...insert popular twentysomething icon here.
Seriously, MS should keep an ear on the Zune haters/ridiculers and come up with something that will turn it around. It's a great piece of hardware. They need something great to back it up.
Well, without a doubt, the Zune has a lot of potential. It has a great design (ahem, thanks to Toshiba), the Wifi has the potential to be more then a gimmick (buy on the fly, update on the fly), and even though its kinda chunky, I think it's looks rival (if not beat) the Ipod. However, several things need to happen, and they need to happen quickly if they want to salvage anything out of the zune. For one-Xbox 360 support. Whether through USB or wireless, I don't care, but how cool would that be to buy a T.V. show off the Xbox Live Marketplace and sync it to your Zune! Of course, if they could simply put the content on the Zune marketplace, it would be even better...take out the middleman. Also, they need "Zunecasts," "Zunebooks," and whatever else they can get to make sure the Zune Marketplace is a one stop shop. Next, I know that they will manufacture the second generation Zunes, so they need to do a few more things. Add a few more extra features. Maybe a voice recorder, a calender, a few games (if you want to look to the ideal for extra content, check out this neat little MP3 player from China).-

Anyway, maybe get the Zune to lose a little weight, get a little cooler, and learn some new tricks, and who knows...we could have an Ipod killer on our hands!
OK, maybe not. I doubt Apple will have below 50% of the market share of mp3 players until 2025 when the world actually figures out that there are other, better MP3 players out there (no offense to Ipods...they are great machines...I just like other MP3 players better).

Sorry, nice crater at launch.
Actually, I know that I am overwhelmingly outnumbered on this argument, but I actually like the DRM. That's right...you didn't read it wrong...I LIKE THE DRM!!! This is the reason (hear me out on this one). OK, when you send (or squirt, I don't know who came up w/ this one) a song to another Zune, this isn't supposed to be like giving a song to them. I mean, otherwise, we could just send all our songs to everyone, and everyone has free music!! When you squirt a song, it is so they can TRY it, listen to it and see if they like it, and if they do they can buy it. And, in my opinion, 3 plays or 3 days is ample time to listen to one song. I applaud Microsoft, even if I get exiled from the forum for saying this.
Hey, its my opinion!

But to limit the device to using the wifi just for that is insane.
Listen to Leo on this one.
Bob
For sure, limiting the wifi is insane. My guess is, Microsoft couldn't get all the kinks out of the other wifi features before Christmas, so they just put it out there with squirting. If you read my first post, I agree that the wifi is limited and it must be expanded, in addition to a few other things happening. I just think that its a really nifty device with a lot of potential, but they have to get some firmware updates (and hopefully Zune gen. 2) out soon. Maybe they can really put something out that can set the standard for hard drive players.
Though Leo definitely does have a point...

I have seen that Youtube video by Leo and think it completely sucks and is basis in my opinion. Leo has never even messed with the Zune. A majority of people who play with the Zune actually love it and like it much better than Ipod.
Leo did not mention facts about the Zune that most critics and people did not already know. His facts were not unique or convinced someone like myself not to get a Zune. You can not bash a product until you have tried it and at least given it a chance, then you can say what the hell you want to say about the product. If you do not like a product it may just be your experience and you do not have to force or encourage somebody not to buy a Zune just because you had a bad experience. People would be surprised if they just gave the Zune a chance and not listen to the media/pop culture, which is controlling our generation and completely brainwashing us.
until he got a hold of one.
Click, click, click, click, click...
Oh, yeah, it's by Microsoft...
More clicks.
Bob
So I would guess he did use the product first.
I've followed Leo from his days on Tech TV (was one of my favorite shows), and the man is a "Tech Expert"; reviewing products and giving his opinion is nothing new to those that followed his shows and now his podcasts. Also he may prefer to use Macs but he is not shy on criticizing Apple products also.
... and I have seen him pan stuff when it deserved it, and be a cheer leader for stuff no one ever heard of before.
He may end up loving Zune v2 or Zune v3, and he will be just as vocal about it.
