Apple Phone Name Predictions

by ron_liong - 12/22/06 8:08 AM

Since the iPhone trademark belongs to Cisco, what names could Apple use for their phones?

My predictions...
-iChat Mobile
-iChatPod
-MacPhone & MacPhone Pro
-Mac Mobile
-Mac Nano
-MacChat

Any more suggestions?

I think it depends on how they want to market it. If they want it to be marketed as an iPod with voice features it could be:
iPod Talk
iPod Mobile
iPod Cell
iPod Phone

If they want to market it as a phone with music features it would be more like:
iTalk
iChat Mobile

Now I happened to have heard from someone who knows someone who's sister works for a company that does contract work for a company that Steve owns a single share in and they told me they will take over Cisco to get the iPhone back. :-)

Forgetting iCell...

by Alegoo92 - 12/22/06 7:26 PM In reply to: Apple Phone Name Predictions by ron_liong

Since I hear iPhone and iTalk are trademarked, Apple will most likely sue the companies and claim that "i" is their trademark and cant be used by other technology companies (like they do for the word 'podcast'). This is reasonable of them, because I can't remember any iGadgets before Apple, and people should stop trying to make a profit off their signature product line.

My thoughts would be probably:

- iCell
- MacMobile (for a smartphone)
- iTalk
- iChat
- or iChat Mobile
- PocketMac (for smartphones)
- iPhone

- or a nice differnet name without an "i" even though that's unlikely because they want to appeal to those who recognize the iPod.

that wont work

I looked up the imobile trade mark and it is liscenced to Iowa mobile they have a perfectly legitimate reason to use it as Iowa=I and mobile=mobile I+mobile=imobile and ichat is owned by dynavox as the name for their "Voice output communications devices for speech impaired individuals, namely, hand held machines which translate inputted data to spoken language. " so i dont think apple wants to get caught harassing small cellphone retailers and disability assistance companies. You know it just isn't right to prevent mute people from writing messages that speak.
