i currently own omniquiti lathe, but i cannot seem to maintain the dvd default res. suggestions?

Would you know of any app that will help me change vob files into avi files so I can edit and burn with the likes of Windows Movie Maker 2???

I heard Sony Vegas might do so but am not sure. Don't want to shell out a lot of green; would rather stick with MM2.
