Palm Treo 700p is one of the "older" kinds of treos out there. But recently, there was a new treo - the 680. I dont know which one to get for my friend for Christmas. Apparently, he doesn't like the stubby antenna sticking out of the 700p, but doesn't like the bad camera on the 680. What should I do? Please help.
You provided antireasons for both models. Keep shopping.

After reading some articles, I found that Palm OS is much easier to use, so I figured if I was going to give my friend a pda, it might as well be a Palm device. He likes smartphones, I'll give you that, so it seems like the Treo is the only thing left, after weeks of narrowing down for the perfect Christmas gift. Anything else you would like to suggest?
I'm having good fun with the 650(p). I know that any day we'll get the other models in but not yet. The camera hasn't been a deal breaker for us.

The 680 just came out, but the 700p (the slightly older one) is much better.Treo 700p allows for a much faster internet connection, has more memory and better camera. The 680 is for folks who don't want to spend the couple extra bucks for a better phone, but still want a Treo.
The 680 has a VGA camera- that's terrible. VGA is super low-res. I'm not a big fan of phone cameras; but if you're gonna have camera, it might as well be decent. Otherwise, they shouldn't include the camera in the irst place.
The 700p allows for wireless broadband internet access. The 680 uses a slower connection.
You definitely want to stick with the p versions of the phones. The palm software has been better than the windows software on mobile smartphone devices. The Windows software is slower (bloatware) and crashes more. However, the palm software does crash occasionally as well requiring a restart of phone, but much less than windows.
If your friend can live with the stubby antenna, the 700p is the one to get right now. Otherwise sometime in the future (probably next year, but way after Christmas) palm will likely come out with an update for the 700p, which may do away with the stubby antenna. But if you wait, get the palm version (p). It'll be better than any w version.
Hope this helps.
