You could then use a search engine not just to find information on the internet, but to find objects in your home. ‘I want to search my home via Google—I want to find my green shirt,’ says Mr Lindoff.”

"Laptops" were several inches wider than notebooks - so they could fit on people's laps. Then, they were made smaller and more compact and the new models were named "notebooks". The editors at CNET don't know this but now you do. BTW, never, ever buy a Gateway - even when a Gateway works, it doesn't work right.
