The resolution is bittersweet, it is a miracle that the girls were found OK, but such a disappointment that James was not. I am so sad to learn of James' death, I feel I've lost a friend. I started listening to MP3 Insider in May and I remember the week he was off when Sabine was born. He will be missed. Hang in there. James has impacted so many people, we will keep his essence alive through our special memories of him. It's going to take us all some time to be with this loss.
Live gently even when life is not. Hugs.
I had only started listening/watching in July. I watched all of the mp3 reviews ( I was in the process of looking for a mp3 player ) and I started listening to the mp3 insiders and cnet-tv/crave.
I love how James would mention his family, like when he was reviewing the fisher-price mp3 player. It gave him a more personal feel, like I was listening to a friend talk to me.
I also like how, whether intentional or not, he always managed to make me laugh with his antics and sayings. He always tried to make light of everything, put little jokes into his reviews, etc.
and finally, my most recent favorite thing ( which is dorky but very funny ) is how he would always say "Salutations". I don't know why but it always made me laugh. =) James was cool.
My favorite memory of James is when he brought his daughter Penelope on the MP3 Insider show. It was just about the cutest thing.
It is somewhat consoling to think that despite the fact that James is no longer with us, that Penelope, Sabine and Kati are OK.
can you find the link of this episode, please?
I feel like James and a lot of the old TechTV folks are like family- I remember watching him reviewing gadgets and hyping up all kinds of nonsense and we've all been through so much since then. After TechTV slowly disappeared I was overjoyed to catch up with James and other TechTVers as they found their way into podcasting. Losing James is a tremendous loss to all of us tech enthusiasts as he shared our passion with a sense of fun and genuine interest that really made a connection. My prayers are with your family James, you will be missed by many.

To me, the recent Zune release highlighted what I so respected about James. He seemed almost impossibly fair and reasonable in his evaluation of it, and I think that held for everything he did. It's truly remarkable the manner in which he was immersed in technology, yet somehow never lost sight of the bigger picture: that it's what someone can get from the technology that counts, rather than the technology itself.
As many here have stated, an odd bond forms between readers and the journalists/podcasters that they admire. I had immense respect for the tone and equanimity of James' approach, to make no mention of the fact that he just seemed like a sweet, gentle individual. James you shall be missed, but not forgotten. My heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and co-workers.

Nav,
I felt the same way. He handled the Zune reviews with such objectiveness and professionalism, I actually went out and bought one. I'm glad I did. I gave my iPod with video to my daughter. James was right on target, and it's nice to have a device that he so liked and will keep memories of him alive.
I remember one of the first things I loaded up on my zune was the
"Zune Fight" mp3 insider podcast. Mostly for the irony, but also to remind myself that not all editors hated the zune. It had been getting such flak, but I thought it was an awesome device, which I why I had been happy James liked it too. ( I had come to value his mp3 opinions )
Now every time I use my zune lately, I find myself reminded about Kim, or skimming through and seeing that podcast... I know it will take time, but now this is just another reminder that keeps reminding me of him.
My dad had to ask me what was wrong when we were eating at a local restaurant tonight. The news was on and they had a story about James. =( I wish it wasn't so depressing.
We must all deal with the loss of his presence among us, but we should also remember who and all that he was.
I bought my first Dish Network satellite receiver just before the ZDTV channel became TECHTV. I used to watch The Screensavers, Call for Help, and a couple of other shows on the channel at that time and watched it up until TECHTV was bought by G4. James Kim's work with the Call for Help and The Screensavers crew will long be remembered, especially by those who worked with him.
Although I had lost track of him after TECHTV was purchased by G4, my thoughts and prayers are for his family, his spirit, and for all of his friends and co-workers who knew him on a more personal level.
Feel his loss, but remember too, all that he was and still is. He took his love of his family and friends with him and we will meet him again.
even though i don't know james personally, i enjoyed watching mp3 reviews done by him. i bought my recent mp3 player after watching his review on it. i'm very sorry for what happened to james and i hope he rest in peace knowing that his family is safe. he is a great person that should be remembered.
