My James Kim Tribute (feel free to add yours)

by joe_news - 12/6/06 8:22 PM

This summer with the starting of my adult life I picked up a job working at a dollar store type place near my house. Naturally the first thing that followed was my ability to actually buy things! O man, how I had suppressed my love of tech since the great TechTv show FreshGear went off the air (aka: killed by G4). So of course I hit the net in search of my "needs" in this ever so digital life. Its should be no surprise that I was soon after I became a fan of cnet.com. Its just so handy. And yeah, its many lovable personality's. The ever entertaining, but sharp Molly Wood. The geek ... beauty (?!) Veronica Belmont, hahah. The wise Tom Merit, I know what Linux is now! And of course, the mp3 lovin man, James Kim.

Can you watch someone from afar and sense they love life too? See a smile or a goofy personality quark and just know, hes your type of friend? Well if you can, I certainly saw that in James Kim.

I like everyone else was shocked to see him go missing. I mean in my little world, he's a celebrity of sorts. The wiser tech brother I have in real life, but more talkative! (although thats his job when he does reviews of course). So ill miss him. ill miss him. Clearly I knew so little about this man, but something just clicked that he was a good guy. And it showed to the end, he was so brave. Courage like that is only told of in stories and tales. But not anymore in my eyes.

James Kim ill miss you, I hope you believed in something more like me, because in my mind you earned a spot up there.

Still praying for his friends and family,
Steve G.

agree....

I agree with you, what I loved about cnet when i started surfing the internet looking for a web site of this kind, was the editors, all of them.
But specially Kim as I was planning on buying an mp3 player, after I came to the USA as an international student.
I hope we had something like this in my country (uruguay).
When I first saw that james was missing, I didnt think it was true, i dont know some kind of bad joke or something, and today i got to work and saw, James Kim 1971-2006, I felt really bad.

And after reading a little bit about his personal life, i realised he was not only exellent at work, but also with his family and friends.

I hope his famlly will be alright.
And I hope this doesnt affect cnet too much, i mean in the "professional" meaning.

To The Families Of James Kim,

We feel your pain. The rollercoaster of emotions you all have been through this past week or so has been felt by many around the world. We too watched and waited for word on this young family. We rejoiced with you when Mrs. Kim and the girls were found. Our hearts sank when it was realized that Mr. Kim was not with them. Our hopes were high when we heard that he had left clues and the rescue workers were working hard to find him. Our hearts sank low when we heard that he did not make it. Knowing only what we do from the news reports and seeing his videos her on cnet, it is obvious that he was a great human being and it is easy to tell that he will be greatly missed by all that knew him. Our heart felt condolences to his wife, children, parents, extended family and to you his work family.

I did not know James Kim. He was everything a father should be. He knew he had little chance but risked all for his family.

I'm an avid fan of C/Net, though I didn't know personally James Kim, I could feel he has been a hero for his family. In this present world, we need more people like James Kim - a real father per se. My sympathy to James Kim's family and to C/Net.

I can think of no braver way for a life to end than trying to save loved ones. I am so glad that the rest of them were found before it was too late. He will be missed.

Please accept my sympathy for the loss of your friend, husband & father... Mr. James Kim. All of us who receive your newsletters, and appreciate the help you all give to thousands of us, cry with you. He sounded like such an interesting person... I've read several of his articles and reviews. Most important he was such a very brave man... may I quote from a good book, "Greater love has no man, than he lay down his life for his brother (wife and/or children)"

Sincerely,

Gregg Pellegrino

As we walk along this road, we forget how fragile we really are, until we are put in situations like this. This is when we discover the real power in nature and even if we think we are well prepared, we can be fooled into believing we can do the near imposible against it.

I've been in sitituations similiar to this up in the Northwest where nature can seem like your friend one moment and stun you with it's overwhelming power and ferocity the next, yet I've survived.

Why? Why me and not James? Many others that do survive, are left wondering the same "Why Me"? Being so close to death is an experience you'll never forget. But we can't let the fear paralize us prevent us from enjoying our lifes.

For us that survive, comes questions and what if's, that are hard to quell, and seem to never get answered. But in the end we know that we must go on and build the courage from a man such as James Kim, who in his last moments prepared the spiritual basis for those that loved him to live on and survive!
Keep those pricious memories close to your heart and we as the community of mankind do feel your pain and loss! And over time it will dimimish. Use his strengh to replentish your own to fulfil his best wishes for you in Life!

We can't have the James Kim's of the world back, but there are parts of him and his life that will never leave us. May he rest in peace and be assured that his wife and children will never forget the littlest pieces of life he left in their hearts!

Sincerely Yours From the Heart!
Tony Noons
