I first heard about C-Net on Ronn Owens' radio show on KGO. I have used the website to research everything from digital cameras, to cars to flat screen tv's. It was just a website before, but now I can put a face with the name. James Kim will always be the face of C-Net in my mind. This is why I have nominated him for Person of the Week. May he rest in peace and may his wife and daughters feel the love and support of all the people who have been touched by his selfless act.
I read about this on the MP3 insider lounge the 6th and immediately went to add my nomination. Thank you, hawknj. Hope this gets picked up by ABC. I'm sure someone at CNET is already gathering images and videos of the various media to make a dvd for the Kim children - or at least I just can tell how caring all the CNET people have been from their quotes in the media, and from the things posted on the site - I'm sure someone will do so in later days. I'll bet someone has already archived the material.
(Here's a nice piece by a former coworker, if you haven't already seen it:

This past week has really made me pay a bit more attention to pod/videocasting - I hadn't really thought much about how the experience of listening and watching really gives you a more personal feeling towards people (the podcasters, videofolk, etc.) than just watching them on tv or reading their words. It's much more like sitting in on a conversation. James' personality came through so clearly in his podcasts that it was so easy to feel you knew him - we definitely had a good idea of the kind of person he was. Which is one of the reasons why he will be missed by many people who never actually met him.
That was an amazing article, thanks for the link.
It hurt to read the very last paragraph, yet it's so true.
Super idea. Just did it. Peace be with you and yours, James.
He was a brave man, selfless and unwavering in his love for his family. What he did is what all true loving fathers and husbands would do... offer up their own lives to save their families. A true man among men and an inspiration to us all. May God bless his family snd grant James peace and a place of honor in Heaven. They will be reunited.
Great idea... did it, hope not too late to be counted.
I just submitted my recommendation. We could use a hero profiled, instead of a garden-variety celebrity.
Done. No one deserves it more.
Just nominated him myself.
I saw him on the today show on MSNBC website, since they put the today in Australia at 4 AM, and lasted about 2 minutes or more. I would nominate him to be the ABC person of the week, I looked at his videos and the podcast and I couldn't control myself even now the true sadness has set in, I could notice Molly Wood on the verge of breaking down, and Tom. Anyway take a break and think of the great times you had with him.
Anyway they suspect that he died of Hypothermia and that he took of his clothes becuase Hypothermia tends to make people feel overheated, just wanted to tell everyone. Bye.
Regards
Steven
I sent mine. I believe he will get it. After what he did for the safety of his family, he is a true HERO.....Maggie

Subject : James Kim, CNet - TO Person of the Week, ABC News
I am joining the call to give your award this week to James Kim of CNet. I do agree that survival stories should be recounted in the hopes that others will know what to do if confronted with the same situations. In moments his family was totally out of touch with the rest of the world and faced with life and death decisions. He, a man who had the very best information technology can provide, was imperiled by reliance on a dashboard map and the signal failure of mobile phones; yet without them he tried to the best of his ability to find a way out for his family, on his own two feet, in the frozen wilderness. A tragic story and a very brave man. Please recognize him this week on your program.

I placed my vote...can anyone get this on the page devoted to James?, or on the today page? I believe many people would e-mail ABC...a true pioneer in his work which reflected his moral integrity and values...
