Zune: you like or dislike?

Veronica mostly doesn't like it; James mostly does.
Veronica likes the interface; James likes the sound quality.
Veronica dislikes lack of WMA DRM9 backwards compatibility; James dislikes weak video support.
What do you think?

You had to catch Cramer's review of the Zune. It was effectively a blowtorch treatment to Microsoft on many points.
1. It's not slick.
2. It's a rejiggered Toshiba.
3. Try it on Vista.
4. The Zune snore (or store?)
And look at where it stood on Amazon.com. No records broke here.
How long will that product manager last?

1. That's a very subjective opinion.
2. It's *built* by Toshiba (someone has to build the device, no?).
3. I *will* try on Vista (it will be compatible by the time Vista is actually released commercially).
4. That's actually one of the great things about the Zune, according to many reviews, including CNET's (and at least Zune's store doesn't crash every 15 minutes like iTunes 7).
You also had to catch the PcMag review of the Zune. It was effectively a very rare unbiased review of a Microsoft product.
How well did the iPod sell when it was released? I don't recall it breaking any record before it was made Windows compatible (how ironic, isn't it?).
And, actually, one of the main persons behind the Zune, J. Allard, was one of the main persons also responsible for the Xbox 360 (so I think he won't need to worry that much about his keeping his job).

As for me, I loathe iTunes. But on a Mac, it's pretty much the only game in town until someone figures out how to put a folder-tree interface onto Songbird.

Now, do you have a Zune??? Because the trouble I went through with that software was incredulous, probably 7-10 crashes before I sent it back to Amazon...
I hate the Zune software with a passion, and though Microsoft seems good at copying Microsoft, they did not do nearly a good enough job at carrying over iTunes features. Theres no preset starts, volume adjustments, and just so many features that work seamlessly inside iTunes.
Only thing I like about the Zune is the interface. (probably because I'm a Mac user and I like things to be very aesthetic..)

I haven't gotten my hands on one yet. I want to like it. I really do. From the pictures I've seen, the screen looks awesome. Too bad you can't buy videos from the Zune Maarketplace to take advantage of it.
When I first saw pictures of it, I thought it was butt ugly. I've softened my stance a little bit. It's kind of ugly. Brown? Maybe for the guys. Black might be okay. The saving grace? The 3 inch screen.
I would have considered the Zune, except that I could only download purchased content from the Zune Marketplace. That would be fine, but I already own an iPod and I like iTunes just fine. I don't need another device that locks me into its software and music store.
I'm not such an Apple fan that I would never consider a non-iPod device. If I go bigger, I would get a Creative Vison W. Nice, big screen, can buy content from a variety of sources.
I'm going to take a look-see at my local Best Buy. Not planning to buy. Perhaps if Microsoft changes its mind and adopts Plays For Sure, I'll change my mind about the Zune.

-Very eye appealing to me (it doesn't look that bad)
-Solid Interface (very easy to navigate and eye catchy)
-Great screen and video viewing experience
-Awesome sound quality
Cons:
-Dosen't support podcasts ( I have to go through juice to get mine)
-Video conversion (I just recently bought a ideo conversion program works great)
-Marketplace is not up to par with iTunes
P.S. I won a zune

Loved most everything about it but the absolutely terrible battery life. I listen under two hours per day and by the second day it would run out of juice. I wanted to try the Zune, but was concerned since it is built by Toshiba and because of some of it's limitations. I decided on a 30g Zen Vision M, which was under $190 bucks at Fry's after TG. It's bigger than the Gigabeat, but the sound battery life and other extras made it worth it. Also, you can find accessories for it. You can hardly find a case for the Gigabeat

The controls confuse me at times. The screen is a little too big for my taste and the colors make me want to puke.
