Vongo--again

by grandpabilli - 8/19/07 8:22 PM In reply to: vongo removal by photog86

Your first set of instructions didn't work at all for me--tapping F8 did absolutely nothing.

I could follow your second set of instructions only so far--through Step 3. When I got to Step 4, Vongo was not listed as a program file, even though it definitely is installed on this HP laptop.

Do you have more suggestions to get rid of this virus???

Thanks--

thanks it worked

by pyrite5916 - 11/21/07 4:49 PM In reply to: vongo removal by photog86

on my new HP (pavillion) notebook I followed your second suggestion, however I could not delete the folder ("you don't have permission"), and - within the folder - all but 16 mostly .dll files.
I downloaded the utility (administrator login and permission required), all these file dissappeared in the Vongo folder. After that, I could delete the folder as well.

Vongo removal from HP Pavilion laptop

by sfq96 - 3/1/09 7:12 PM In reply to: vongo removal by photog86

Another successful Vongo removal. The instructions to Kate from Photog86 was great. I had to install the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility to get it done but that did the trick. Thank you.

Do a search for Vongo on your hard drive and remove all those directories and files also.

To uninstall the Update Manager utility

by newscientist2000 - 1/1/07 1:49 PM In reply to: tried and tested by mastkalander

If you want to kill Installashield Update then try the installashield remover program here

http://support.installshield.com/kb/view.asp?articleid=Q111106

or more specifically

http://saturn.installshield.com/isus/310/sdk/uninstallupdatemanager.exe

I got error messages after using uninstalling vongo, but this stopped installashield triggering a vongo reinstall cycle every boot.

HP should post a removal tool on its website because its damn inconvenient/hard to remove this software.

More info

The above step/uninstaller utility works by killing ISUSPM.exe, and is an alternative to using MSCONFIG.

It does not kill ISSCH.exe

I agree HP should give us a complete removal tool

by Joey301 - 1/1/07 6:06 PM In reply to: To uninstall the Update Manager utility by newscientist2000

With all the complaints that I have seen about Vongo, and all of the ways to get rid of it. I am surprised that HP has not given us a one step method. After reading all of the methods here, I just don't want to start mucking with it.

I HATE VONGO

by sugaroverload371 - 1/5/07 9:51 PM In reply to: I agree HP should give us a complete removal tool by Joey301

I HATE VONGO, can that be any more blunt. This monstrosity of a thing/virus, has wasted more of my time than I thought possible. I have tried to delete it and all of its files and now I have to resort to delving deeper into my computer to pull out the culprit and kill it once and for all.

jeeze HP, have some sense..

Theres better tips on microsoft website boards on how to completely get it off your computer. Im fixing to have to remove it again , because im have to use my recovery cds to reinstall the whole operating system back to factory new. i got a new hp pavilion 9000t duo core 2 17 inch. When i got it i whent to defrag the hard drive after a week. hp puts a partition on the 92gb hard drive {100/] the partition was complely fregged in red with only 11% left to defreg , It takes 15% to defrag. so i deleted the whole partition drive e;/. Laptop run great , its only the quickplay buttons and cd-rom from media center that will not work offline. Ive gotten so much junk off , its runs superfast. msn money, vongo, wild targent games, etc alot. my hard drive has 83gb free out of 92.5 gb , without norton other files program , i now have 73% memory free, before it was 50%. out of 1gb. also have 2.33ghz duo core 2 processor ready to put in with 2 mhz ram. laptops have gotten easy to take apart and repair or upgrade. good luck my friends
