Nothing to worry about

by jackson dougless - 11/14/06 2:10 PM In reply to: Page Error by Slowcoach

Odds are, it's just some stuff to deal with the transition to IE7. Not that many people were aware of it, but IE6 is horribly horribly broken, and IE7 is considerably less broken... Though that means some compatibility issues with sites designed around IE6's horribly horribly broken nature.

Though, for many security related reasons, you shouldn't be using Internet Explorer. You'd be well advised to make either Opera or Mozilla Firefox your primary browser, and leave Internet Explorer just for downloading security updates for Windows.

I agree, except

that MSN prefer users to use Microsoft's browser. Some things don't work in other browsers.

Nothing you can't live without, find at the bargain bin of almost any retail store, or find on another site. It's just not worth the safety and security of your computer to be able to play a few simple games or chat programs.

I agee, too... BUT

by brandon_farris01 - 11/18/06 4:45 AM In reply to: I agree, except by MarkFlax Moderator

I have to echo MarkFlax's note. I have both IE7 and FireFox on my PC. I try to use FireFox whenever possible, but it doesn't work well with some popular sites, like MapQuest. The latest 1.x version is worse in this regard than previous versions. There is an "add-on" that is supposed to allow you to view sites that only work well with IE, but it's not an executable file and there are no clear instructions on how to add it to FireFox, so I can't use it, so I find that I'm using IE more now than I used to.

Opening IE tabs in FireFox

by YamiNoSensei - 11/18/06 7:32 AM In reply to: I agee, too... BUT by brandon_farris01

In the Firefox Tools menu there's a pick called "IE tab options". This lets you specify certain sites to always open in IE. Also, if you right-click on any link, one of the options will be "open link in IE tab". Quick & easy!

All you needed to do was navigate to internet options, select the advanced tab, check "disable script debugging" , check "disable script debugging(other)" if available and make sure "display a notification about every script error" is not checked, click apply at bottom of window and your done.

BUT

Now that Mozilla has released FireFox 2, you can do anything you need with the help of the IE Tab extension.
This extension allows you can to download updates from Microsoft or load any websites that only support Microsoft's Internet Explorer.

In other words, you can use surf the web with Internet Explorer and uses the added security of FireFox.

Plus you can download the Java Script Debugger extension and never worry about errors on a page!

Firefox with IE Tab

by dmcutaia - 11/18/06 3:53 AM In reply to: BUT by Big.Daddy.1124

I just installed Firfox 2.0 and then installed the IE tab - wow - it is very cool and so convenient. There are a few websites I go to regularly at work - which have forms/scripts and they don't work in Firefox OR in IE7 (which the IT person at work downloaded onto someone else's computer - but not mine!) So the IT tab works great - it opens IE 6 for only those few websites I need it for and I use Firefox for everything else. I love Firefox tabbed browsing - and even though IE 7 tries to use tabbed browsing it is not as nice as Firefox or Opera. I actually like Opera more but there are too many websites that don't work with it.

Don't use Firefox; use Internet Explorer 7.

by Ryo Hazuki - 11/18/06 5:12 AM In reply to: Page Error by Slowcoach

Don't listen to people who try to persuade you to install another piece of software that won't do more than just ocupy precious space in your hard drive and give you a false sence of security, it will give you 0% more security. According to Secunia, last year were found 107 vulnarabilities in Firefox against 70 in Internet Explorer 6 (and Internet Explorer 7 is considerably more secure than Internet Explorer 6).
Just download, install and use Internet Explorer 7 (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/default.mspx) as your default browser (if you haven't done it yet) and you'll be as safe or even safer than using Firefox, Opera or any other browser while having less compatability problems while opening webpages.

Browser Security

by langr - 11/18/06 6:40 AM In reply to: Don't use Firefox; use Internet Explorer 7. by Ryo Hazuki

If you read carefully (and I may have seen it in a different article), MS on average took 8 days to address a security issue and publish a fix/patch vs. 1 day for Firefox. 8x70 vs. 107x1.
