Can't Turn Off Subtitles on DVDs

by jgr777 - 11/14/06 1:05 PM

If I play a movie on my computer, if the movie has subtitles, they can't be turned off. I can switch the language if there are multiple languages, I can turn on/off captions, but the subtitles will not turn off. This happens with Windows Media Player as well as Interactual and Ulead players. I have tested about a dozen DVDs and they all behave identically except Star Wars. Odd. They play correctly (i.e., without subtitles) on my dedicated DVD player in my home entertainment system. Any ideas?

There's your clue. It's a multilingual DVD.

I supplied the reference material so others could see the causes.

Since I'm aware of this, I don't have any issues.

DVD Sub-Titles..

by castingRod47 - 12/23/06 8:54 AM In reply to: Can't Turn Off Subtitles on DVDs by jgr777

If you have a Studio DVD that was purchased at the Store..
It has its own MENU-options..
Usually if you playback on your Home DVD-Player via the TV-screen/you must first CHOOSE Set-Up..
..The DVD will ask for your Audio Format and SubTitles..
I would first check that option in SubTitles..
Then YES...WMP asks about:SubTitles..I have not had such a problem on my PC..
YET...on my TV-set..if the TV-set is prompted too show Subtitles/and the DVD-selection has SubTitles TURNED OFF(in MENU Options)..SubTiltes will appear..
..
Its also Noticeable that STUDIO SubTitles have a MORE...Brillant Quality than TV-screen SubTitle Prompts..
..
So..what's what..in the Sub Title..just PLAIN WHITE TEXT...or some attractive Color Text..
Should reveal something.
