We're looking at laptops in the $600-$700 range, and it looks like we can get a pretty decent one for that price, but each week at each store there's a different brand on sale. Is one any better than another? Tell us if you've had a particularly good or bad experience with a company or it's laptop products!
I'll continue to note the Lenovo 650 buck deal from a few weeks ago with the Core 2 Duo chip and all the usual goods. I see no reason to settle for less. Why accept the Core Duo over the Core 2 Duo?
Keep shopping.

What kind of notebook are you looking for in particular and what will you be using it for. At $650 or $700 you can get a nice notebook, but you will have to compromise on some points.
Give us more details on what you're looking for and we'll try to help.
The 650 buck deal had the Core 2 Duo chip, dual layer dvd recorder, wifi, usb 2.0 ports, firewire port, flash memory slots, TV out and was a laptop by a known maker. It had 512MB but XP runs fine on that.
I don't see any compromise here.

...has already started.

Looks like Lenovo has all their laptops on sale, plus 512 free memory.
