Hi.
I am planning to buy a computer 1st week of December.
I am 22 years old, intermediate level in computers. (Hardware/Software)
I really don't have a budget limit. I'm planning to buy a Mac computer.
But I was wondering if Desktop24" or a Laptop17" Mac would be better for a 1st time user for "MAC"?
And what software is recomended for a 1st time user in Mac?
Chris
A laptop is today's most common unit since you can take it with you but with the same old downsides of lower lifespans and higher costs. But performance has reached levels where we can use a laptop for most applications (none noted by you yet.)
I can't see what criteria you are using to select which way to go.

This will be for school work, pictures, movies, encoding video to iPod, words, excel, small video editing, and also using windows. I have a problem though. Im going to buy the Apple computer here in korea. And Im not staying in korea for a long time, so i was wondering if its possible to hand carry the desktop 24', if ever i decided to buy the desktop 24"?
Chris
If you're in your 20's and plan on moving around the world I would definitely go for the MacBook Pro 17"
You'll be able to throw the MacBook in a bag you can carry on the airplane, but if you get the 24" iMac you will have to box it up and pray it makes it through baggage.
Besides, why would you want to be tied down by the iMac?
I find 17" laptops too heavy and too big for carrying it...
But the Macbook Pro is definitively a good choice.
I haven't seen the 17" MacPro. Because they don't have stock yet here in Korea and also they still don't have the Core Duo 2 till 1st week of Dec. So I have no idea how big and heavy it will be.
I have no plans to travel. Once I'm in Singapore I will be staying there for 1 yr and a half.
The issue is this:
If you have a budget of $3300
What would you pick? Because the iMac 24" is $2200 Korea Price and the MacBook Pro 17" is $3200 Korea Price.
And I have no idea what to choose since im illiterate with Apple products.
If you where in my shoes, what would you prefer?
if I upgrade the iMac 24" to:
2.33 Inter core duo 2
2GB RAM
750GB HDD
Nvidia 7600 GT 256MB
And the Apple Care
It will cost me merely $3400
