IE7 has changed the way it handles populated drop down list in that it no longer supports pre-populated drop down lists when returning from a higher level.
i.e. if on page 1 you select a value from drop list 1 that populates drop list 2 and then perform a search based upon the selected values in the 2 drop down lists which presents you with a results list window. When you return from the search list, in order to search for somthing else based on the same drop list values you have to select something different in drop list 1 and then select the original value again in drop list 1 in order to be able to re-populate the drop list 2 values so you can re-select what you originally had selected there.
The IE6 behavior, and logically so, was to retain the values in the drop downlists and also the select values so that your search position was maintained.
This new IE7 change is very painful if you perform many searches involving multiple drop lists, enough so that I backed out to ie6 after I reported the bug to MS during beta2 and they acknowledged it but declined to fix it.
Download was fast, looked ok.For appox 2 days, then everytime i opened a web page microsoft in its wisdom keep telling me this page can't be displayed owing to no internet connection.I also started having error messages 24/7 with page not being able to be veiw correctly.
I tried everything eventually I just had enough and reverted back to IE6 and wonderfully no more hassles and no more problems, everything is running as well as it did before.
All the updates have been carefully carried out etc.
Only thing I can put it down to is aol, maybe they don't like it,lol.
Tried IE7 but had trouble with my HP Printer. Contacted them and they said their Printer was supported by IE6 and recommended that I go back which I did and problem went away.
sp2 will not install, so I cannot use Explorer 7
Although M$ released ie7, it still has a few bugs left. Goto music.download.com and point to the icon legend and you'll find a bug! Also, when I go to friendster.com, My profile doesn't display correctly unlike in IE6.
I downloaded IE 7 tonight so I haven't had the chace to really get into the guts of it, but a couple of things I"ve noticed is that it is faster (dial-up), and the tabs ala firefox. I still get the pop-ups from outerinfo that are completly annoying so I can't say that I'm going to be using it more or less than I already am.
I loaded and maybe did somehting wrong, but it was a disaster. I failed to get on line with it and had to use Firefox, which is better. Even IE 6 will shut me down inside Scottrade using Java applet. It does work for most needs, since I removed IE7 and restarted IE6. It somehow removed my Virtual Memory file, of which I forget name. Going to Microsoft for help was fruitless, including IE7 and VMM. It seems that they no longer support VMM. I am using XP Pro. Curtis
I use Microsoft Virtual PC for fun and to test software. Basically, I have 2 laptops, one is older and has lower hardware spec and the other is new and has higher hardware spec. I use the old one to run legacy OSes, and the newer one to run Windows 2000 with apps like games and Macromedia Studio MX 2004, amongst others that cannot be run on a Pentium II!
I also enjoy using Virtual PC because it is simple and allows for more possibilities. For instance, it always emulates the popular S3 display type, which allows for "plug and play" of the virtual display type with up to 24 bit colour, on all Windows versions from 3.1 to XP. Sound drivers and devices are loaded pretty much automatically too.
So, my point is this: If you are unsure of IE7, download and install Virtual PC 2004 (which is now free) and install Windows XP onto it from your system CD. Try IE7, and if you don't like it, your original system is in no way affected.
If you like the printing in IE7, you can still get it and browse safely using Firefox!
Get the Firefox IETAB extension, install it, restart Firefox and verify that it works correctly. Then just switch to IE mode and if you are using IE7, print a page and it should print like IE7 does, which I hear it does well.
I found my self unable to do drag and drop transfers to an FTP window using Explorer 7. It claimed the files were read only and it did not recognize proxy settings.
Uninstalling and returning to Explorer 6 resolved the issue.
In contacting Microsoft about the issue they first attempted to charge me for support then finally transferred me to a tech, who attempted to use the same feature and it failed. Major technical gaff that should have been caught long before production release of the product. Either the installation routine did not accomodate the existing FTP settings, or the functionality doesn't work. Major, major functionality flaw that prevents anyone in my company from upgrading.
I use IE7, in fact I'm using it right now to write this message
... the way I see it, people, including the reviewers of CNET are just being mean, just like people are to other large companies/people..e.g- to McDonalds(big fast food joint), famous rappers, popular video games, etc.
My daughter is asking for a digital camera for Christmas. I have been doing my research here on Cnet & Circuit City. These are the camera basics:
1: MUST HAVE A METAL BODY 2:$100-$200 3: 3-4 megapixals 4: Optical & LCD viewfinders 5: LCD viewfinder must be at least 2" 6: video-clip with sound 7: red-reduction 8: Fully auto with some manual modes. 9: At least a 3X optical zoom, no digital zoom.
Any and all help will be great. thanks
Steve J.
You should repost your question in the Digital Camera forum, which is far more sited to the issue at hand.
