Other than all of the common things people hate about IE, what I hate is the new interface. I really really want my menu bar at the top of the window. Now the menu bar is a regular toolbar and the address bar is required to be at the top. That one thing is why I hate IE 7.
Until it has been there a few months will not download again after it messed me up and Microsoft wants to bill me to get my computer back in operation because of their actions. So I will not try it or use it till they have gotten some of the bugs out of it.
I trusted Microsoft till now so burn me and I drop you like a hot potato, fleece me and I will go for legal action and criminal complaint if the is a law.
What I like about IE7 is the clarity of the text and the speed compared to IE6. It also has improved security which is the phishing filter. So far, everything is alright. There are no conflicts or whatsoever to my security softwares and firewalls. you can also add the windows live toolbar and customize it according to you taste. Its simple, fast and no sophisticated features. For me, IE7 is the most convinient browser available.
I downloaded IE 7 Beta on my laptop and had nothing but problems. It locked me out of all my email to start with. After spening a long time trying to get my computer to run at all, I tried to get rid of IE 7 and go back to FireFox. It was impossible to do because I couldn't get rid of IE 7. I had to finally to a restore point to get my computer back and it changed security settings because now I am swamped with spam. This has been a horrible experience and I will never try to download an IE browser again. I am still not back to the comfortable place I was before IE 7 so I'll stick with Firefox.
I like it !!! Wouldn't it help to have a button for your address book available right on your browser.A button for auto fill ( without having to depend on an add on re: Google) would be nice too ,Thanks Wayne
Ok there were some good ideas in the simplified layout of the new explorer .. notice they switched their logo to the left and positioned in the same line as the one with the closing and resizing window buttons. It is nice to have a larger display area and it is good to see the phishing utility. But that is about it! Microsoft is facing steep competition by Firefox and other browsers which are more compliant with the w3 standards. By the way there is a new release of Firefox worth checking out. To me, my experience with IE7 is that it is got a better layout than its predecesors and it is finally catching up to the features long offered by other browsers such as "tabs". But by the same token, IE7 performance has been sacrificed, I see an evident decline in speed and load time. I also think that Windows users are all about having things done a certain way and they gotten acostumed to that, so changing things a bit to catch up with the competition may open the door for their user base to finally try other more reliable and compliant browsers. At last a major risk for MS!
Something else that anoys the hell off of me, is that default MS window that serves as your home page. If you go to tools/internet options and try to change your home page and re-open it will still give you that damned page that is worthless and a waste of time. So you have to go thru it so that it finally defaults you to the home page you want!!!! This blows.
I find that IE 7 takes a lot longer to initially load and in many instances it hangs up when I go to shut it down. I have learned to deal with it and simply to force it to close. As to its usability I have been very please with the actual speed and some of the other features Microsoft has added. Many of these are the same that Firefox has had for some time and most of them makes your life easier. As to security only time will tell if they have tightened that up as they promised. I hope the Microsoft bashers give them enough time to work out the bugs without their usual rantings.
Takes a few minuites to set the toolbars. Looks a little different. I love it over IE 6.0, pictures and text are brighter and sharper. I have had no problems surfing the internet for 2 weeks now. My next step is to download it on my oter two desktops and my laptop. Good job microsoft.
I downloaded IE7 and found it to be a royal pain in the posterior. I have a new PC and DSL, but getting websites to download in a reasonable time was a thing of the past.
What especially annoyed me was IE7 telling me that the Armed Forces site I've been accessing for 5 years was a site that was dangerous and it's certificate was not valid on IE7.
I called MicroSoft and they told me that for $35 dollars that they would help.
My solution was to download FireFox and uninstall IE7 and uncheck the IE component boxes in the control panel.
This ended my problem.
I use Firefox and I can't see me wanting to change that view.
Its not about Microsoft bashing as is obviously the motivation of some comments, Its about what I prefer, what is safer and what is more functional and Firefox satisfies all that for me.
I still have IE6 though and at times I find it useful, so who knows, if I see a compelling need to update to IE7 I might.
Still use Firefox though.
Can't see why some of you all get so worked up about it though. Geez its just a browser right?
you will get the functionality of IE Explorer in a Firefox Windows using this add-on, so it saves having the two processes open at once for banking sites etc.
But I am well aware of the functionality and capabilities of a vast range of software including Firefox. It comes with 20 years experience, a college degree and pretty much every certification you can name.
I don't seek to impose my knowledge base on others, I wish only to express my view based on my own opinions and experience.
But all the same, I appreciate the gesture.
Been on this site a couple years now and ive seen some real dummy wannabes strut around full of hot air but a long way from being the brightest lamp on the street. All of them seem to rate themselves highly though consider themselves to be advanced but not much if anything they post supports that.
You are one of those people smithcomp. Nothing caliguru wrote suggested a need to tell him what you assumed he needed to know and im guessing his reply to you was to say, dont assume you know better or more than others cos in your case you dont. Nothing I read over the past couple days from him or any other guys suggested they expect you to bow to them, but you seem to expect that everyone takes your cr*p and like it
He gave you some good advice. Dont lie, dont make claims that are not true. You dont have the backing of the mods and you back peddled on that because you knew they would call you out on it. You dont have the support of the masses. No one has defended or supported you. All you have done is get folks backs up. Youre not Mr Popular, truth be told youre considered a blow hard joke whos been blabbing off for the past couple months now.
So pull your pointy head in and behave. Stop lying and stirring up trouble and if you must contribute then get your facts straight. You want respect then show it but you got a lot to learn and you a heck of a long ways from being advanced at anything. Thats all I got to say to you and nothing you will no doubt say matters a hoot to me or anyone else.
I just downloaded IE 7 and I am lost! Why do they make changes simply to make changes? Must the basic format change?
Perhaps I will adjust to the strange toolbar -- wherever it is! -- but I was much happier with my old IE 6. And at my slow connection speed, it took me nearly two hours to download.
