It's interesting that you say Firefox is noticeably slower than IE. In my experience it is noticeably faster than IE. But I could be wrong about the new IE I suppose.
When I am developing web pages, I use IE only to see how my page will view in it. It is notoriously the worst browser to design for and has no features that all the other browsers have already had for some time. Explorer 7 is better than it's predecessor, however.
Firefox (now 2.0) an NE 8.1 both furfills all me needs, and I use IE6.1 only for those sites that are only reachable through IE.Who cares about IE7?
I have tried to install it twice, each time I have had it up no longer than 2 days and all hell has broken loose each time and I have had to go back to the older version. I don't get it either, I have a brand new computer, nothing on out of the ordinary, yet, pages stall, IE in my CPU ( task manager, processes) eats it all up and lags everything.
For the times I use IE now the older version will do fine, I found my heart in Mozilla Firefox, then updates to firefox 2, I LOVE it! No issues WHATSOEVER! How nice for a change! I am sticking with it now.
I like how it deals with newsfeeds(RSS) with the icon indicator doing a good job.
The 'Favorites' is a pleasure to have, easy to navigate.
favicons are now displaying without a glitch.
Tabs are ok, room for improvement in usability and choice of how.
Love the ability to now be able to print an A4 page in portrait without loosing right hand text.
Definately go for the 'album' style of collating multiple web pages, great for researching.
Didn't like the Menu bar so changed it with a registry entry now mor traditional look with URL Address bar below standard menu bar.
Downloaded IE7 and tried it, but will not use it. Here's the take on IE7 vs Firefox 2:
Firefox 2 is very fast, and still more secure than IE7; Ad Aware scans show more spyware after IE7 usage than after FF2 usage. Run the check yourself.
FF2 maintains the same user interface, so there's no learning curve. With IE7, you need to learn to use the browser all over again.
You can add bookmarks to a toolbar in FF2, which speeds surfing to commonly viewed sites. IE7 doesn't have this.
FF2 is extensible, IE7 is not.
FF2 is written by gifted volunteers that have the public good uppermost in their minds. IE7 is written by Microsoft. You don't need to be a rocket scientist to figure out the implications of that.
However, the zoom feature of IE7 works better than the zoom feature of FF2. And it supports Activex, which is occasionally important (and often a huge security risk).
I downloaded it did not like it and tried to remove it without success. Moving around has slowed down. It takes forever for a tab to disappear. Clicking red ex is useless. As far as I am concerned IE 7 is a bust and I would like IE 6 back

I have Qwest dsl with MSN. After downloading IE7 MSN Explorer will sporadically shut down. Tried reinstalling MSN but it doesn't help. IE7 works fine -- no problem. (I have WindowsXP SP2 Media Center)
Yes I downloaded IE7 and tryed it ,after about 30 min. I went back to useing Ace Explorer. It uses internet explorer as a base program but changes it to a much easer and better form . Ace Explorer is still the best way to use Internet Explorer.
JUST WAITING FOR SOME POSITIVE REVIEWS ON THE NEW SYSTEM. WOULD LIKE TO MAKE SURE THE "BUGS" HAVE BEEN ELIMINATED AS ARE THE SECURITY HOLES. KEEP ON REVIEWING.

I will never download IE7 because it forces me to upgrade windows. Currently my system doesn't support IE7, And IE6 is'nt all that great!
I LOVE IT !!!!!!!It has stableized my PC.....
No way I can download it. It is a ''windows'' only application. I use a MAC. Based on my experience with the latest version for MAC (IE vs 5.2.3), I would probably end up trashing it anyway.
7.0 was a horrible experience. When I downloaded it, i couldnt find anything, much of my functionality was either gone or missplaced! I used Firefox instead of 6.0 due to its speed advantage, IE7.0 was worse! All in all, it was a horrible experience, plus I couldn't uninstall the damn thing when I wanted to reinstall 6.0. Oh, and try to find a place to install 6.0!!! Microsoft has closed nearly all places to download 6.0. DO NOT GET RID OF YOUR I.E.6.0!! Microsoft is crapping on its customers, but thankfully we can keep using Firefox. When Firefox upgraded to 2.0, they didnt change familiar tabs, data locations, and functionality...they remembered what customers like most...good performance and familiarity.
For two reasons, one is i have had no problems with 6. i honestly hvae found nothiing wrong with IE6 it is ractile and intuitive enough for me.
Reason two, Microsoft included IE7 into the updater package. so wether or not you wanted it or not it was downloaded to your machine. all heil microsoft for running my PC for me.
