Why use an inferior product

by rbuschman - 11/1/06 8:12 AM In reply to: Will you download and use Internet Explorer 7? by Marc Bennett Moderator

Why would anyone support the use of an inferior product with all the problems that IE continues to have! Firefox and almost ever other browser will outperform IE and will not require the turning off of anti-virus software to load successfully! Why bother to go there?

Never (until it is fixed) Got it and went back to IE6

by damage_inc - 11/1/06 8:16 AM In reply to: Will you download and use Internet Explorer 7? by Marc Bennett Moderator

I absolutely hate the new interface.

Yes I found the menu bar but I want it at the top not below the fwd/back button bar. Maybe I missed something but I could only get it to appear there. The menu at that position is one of the longest standing windows conventions and I am used to it and prefer it. I do forward and back on my mouse anyways.

The back and forth menu seems to be locked. It has a google search on the right. This is the normal search if you had clicked the search, I don't want that one. I can not resize the menu choose what is on it, or dock another menu (my real google toolbar) next to it. I could do this in IE6 why did I lose this ability to customize.

I love IE6 but at this point if I were forced to upgrade I would give firefox a hard look first.

Most likely I will hold out until they upgrade change or fix the interface.

I jumped in the water ages ago...

by Jmaxxz - 11/1/06 8:57 AM In reply to: ie 7 by MARTMOSK

I have been using ie7 since 2 hours after the release of the first beta, and all I have to say is. IT'S AWESOME! Every since that first day I know that I would never go back to ie6. I am an IE7 addict, if a machine that I am working on does not have ie7 I just about pull my hair out, I can't stand using ie6 anymore.

But contrary to 90% of other cnet users I am not dead set against Microsoft, and madly in love with firefox. I try to divide my browsing time between firefox, ie, and opera (with the occasional lynx browsing experience).

All three browsers have there advantages all three have short comings.

Netscape 8.1.2.0 has the best of both worlds

by modixon - 11/1/06 8:51 AM In reply to: Will you download and use Internet Explorer 7? by Marc Bennett Moderator

I've been using Netscape 8.1 for a while now. It has tabbed browsing and uses the Firefox engine by default. If I absolutely need to, I can allow Netscape to use the the IE engine to display any page. Additionally, I can enable/disable ActiveX, pop-ups and programs for any IE displayed site. I've found "IE enhanced" sites that behave better with Netscape's IE engine than with native IE. I won't upgrade IE until I'm forced to do so.

I can't use it yet

by ricker58 - 11/1/06 8:55 AM In reply to: Will you download and use Internet Explorer 7? by Marc Bennett Moderator

Unfortunately I bank on line and Wells Fargo IT department has not tested IE7 and until they do it won't support IE7, so I must wait for theri notice in order to upgrade...when I went from IE 5 to IE 6 I could not open my account on line until they approved IE 6

Don't let Microsoft monopolize you

by rkt - 11/1/06 9:02 AM In reply to: Will you download and use Internet Explorer 7? by Marc Bennett Moderator

Before you can download IE7, Microsoft will harass you with the WGA validation process. The the download and installation processes seems take forever. It will take up a large amount of your disk spaces and memory to run. Why going through all these troubles when you can have FIREFOX which is free, much simpler and better!

Yes IE 7.0 and Mozilla Firefox too!

by dotbing04 - 11/1/06 9:05 AM In reply to: Will you download and use Internet Explorer 7? by Marc Bennett Moderator

Aloha!

IE 7.0 has good "Internet Options" on the Control pannel to delete Temp Files & cookies So far I've haven't had any major problems with it or Mozilla Firefox 2.0 and if you use "RoboForm" you will have to download it again that's why I use both browsers to be independent!

MAHHHAAAALLLOOOOO!!!

Done with IE, but no Mr. Softy

by NateUnix - 11/1/06 9:11 AM In reply to: Will you download and use Internet Explorer 7? by Marc Bennett Moderator

I have switched completely to Firefox, tabbed browsing and speed of the browser won me over. If I have to bring up IE because some webform demands it, I will just use my current version.

I won't become another Linux guy though. If I really wanted to run Unix, I would just by a Mac.

Caution when downloading Explorer 7

by siebenh - 11/1/06 9:17 AM In reply to: Will you download and use Internet Explorer 7? by Marc Bennett Moderator

I did fall in the trap to download Explorer 7 and followed all the instructions as given. When trying to use the browser later, I had to discover, that all my bookmarks were gone. Nowhere was there a message to save the bookmarks before downloading. Too, bad.

My reasons for not ''Using'' IE7

by Cannyone - 11/1/06 9:40 AM In reply to: Will you download and use Internet Explorer 7? by Marc Bennett Moderator

From what I understand MS will force IE7 upon me in their next ''Security Update''. And occasionally I use IE for a very few tasks (like updating my Creative Labs drivers and configuring my Linksys router). But I will never use it as my regular browser for a Variety of reasons.

I suppose first and formost, is that I don't want MS to have complete monopoly power. And when I'm able to make a choice I normally choose something other than Microsoft. Just on principle! And this applies to almost any program. It's my small way of resisting.

Second, IE will always be a target and they will never get all the bugs worked out. They'll (Microsoft) just want you to buy another program to deal with the spyware. I used to use IE and had to scan my system for spyware every week. Then I switched to Firefox and those issues faded away. I still practice common sense when it comes to installing things (that are really trojans...), but I just don't have trouble with spyware anymore (and Yes I still occasionally scan for it).

Last, I'll admit to being a creature of ''habit''. I've been using Firefox for a few years now. I'm used to it's interface and controls. So I've already installed Firefox 2. Why do I need IE7?

IE7

by billconley32 - 11/1/06 9:41 AM In reply to: Will you download and use Internet Explorer 7? by Marc Bennett Moderator

I've been using IE7 for a week and find that it is much better than ever. I hated Internet Explorer because it was so slow and crashed too often. IE7 is a much better one now. Of course, I still mostly use Firefox.

Firefox is an OK browser but certanly not a Great Browser

by Benf - 11/1/06 9:48 AM In reply to: Will you download and use Internet Explorer 7? by Marc Bennett Moderator

I have tried the IE Wannabee browser Firefox and although it seems to be a nice browser it lacks stability and occasionaly locks up, it also wont handle the internet as well as IE does, IE views all web sites I go to without a problem, Firefox does not, Firefox is noticably slower than IE, security is not an issue with IE, I am unsure about Firefox, in my opinion the media blows this security issue far out of perportion, I have used Windows and MSIE for many years and am online 24/7 and have never been hacked, attacked never had a virus or worm nor any of the problems thar the media clames are so common but biased reporting is one of the halmarks of the American media and many people just accept it as fact and blunder thru each day armed with misinformation gained from questionable journalism.
