Doesn't work with my all-in-one

by wwahl - 10/31/06 8:42 PM In reply to: What do you like/dislike about Internet Explorer 7? by John.Wilkinson Moderator

I had to remove IE-7 because the folks at HP decided to wait until IE-7 went 'gold' before even thinking about their printer software working properly with this. I am mighty perturbed about this chain of events as IE-7 is about to rammed down my throat by Automatic Updates. Both of these companies need to work together here, and they are not. Perhaps the answer is to move to another operating system and a printer that would work with this?

OK So Far, Except

by oldsalt007 - 10/31/06 8:43 PM In reply to: What do you like/dislike about Internet Explorer 7? by John.Wilkinson Moderator

One little minor problem that is irritating is the fact that when I open Yahoo Mail and COMPOSE a new e-mail, when I click on TO in order to get an address from my address book, the address book window is not on top like it used to be. I have to click on that window to bring it to the fore-ground. Minor, but a pain.

IE 7

by Donna Denny - 10/31/06 8:53 PM In reply to: What do you like/dislike about Internet Explorer 7? by John.Wilkinson Moderator

I always go for any upgrade as soon as it's available, and most times find no problem, whatever the program. My first reaction was "I don't like this - it looks different". Typical reaction, NBD. When I saw your question, I tried to remember what I didn't like, and, now 2 weeks later, couldn't think of anything. Basically, it works fine, very functional, responsive. Only personal note, I miss the Windows flag - let me know something was happening, but now I found the circle, so it is good. But I still miss the flag - Isn't it funny the things that bother us?

Add To Favorites-BAD! Primary Page Stays Up w/New Tabs-Good!

by bohig - 10/31/06 9:08 PM In reply to: What do you like/dislike about Internet Explorer 7? by John.Wilkinson Moderator

I hate the ADD TO FAVORITES!!! If you are Packrat that has way too many bookmarks in folders and subfolders, this browser is impossible. The Add To Favorites opens a window with ALL the favorites list expanded without the option to collapse. How VERY frustrating to Scroll and scroll and scroll and scroll and scroll and scroll and scroll and scroll and scroll and scroll and then CLICK to place your favorite. STUPID!!! NOT AN IMPROVEMENT!!!

What I like is that the Primary window stays up or on top when new tabs are selected.

I am back to IE6 because of the favorites thing.

Add To Favorites-BAD!

by JanRZ - 10/31/06 10:58 PM In reply to: Add To Favorites-BAD! Primary Page Stays Up w/New Tabs-Good! by bohig

I fully agree!
I too have a lot of subfolders and adresses in my Favorites.
Not only are all branches expanded but they are also totally unsorted with no way to sort.
Even a beginning programmer would do this interface better.
Microsoft do your homework, for now I'm back to IE6.

Unable to find these problems.

by cesareDH - 11/1/06 4:29 AM In reply to: Add To Favorites-BAD! by JanRZ

I can't understand what these unhappy people are talking about. There's no problem sorting and organizing the FAVORITES. I have a long list of folders and subfolders, all of which are in order and easy to organize. DUUHHH

Adding a new favorite

by Emma - 11/1/06 9:49 AM In reply to: Unable to find these problems. by cesareDH

Try adding a new favorite and tell us what you see ?
It's not the same as hitting the button to sort and organize favorites.

Oh man, your favorites list must be small

by dtow - 1/9/08 4:32 PM In reply to: Unable to find these problems. by cesareDH

I have all my favorites going back to my first computer and Windows 3.1, that's a bunch of days, months, years ago, I'm tell ya! So when you here these other dudes saying "THE Favorites "SUCK"", they ain't a lying! It takes all day to place favorites any more. Yes when you want to go to your Favorites and click on the link, they are nice and neat. I am going to see if there are any hacks, tweaks, etc to fix this. I sure hope I find something.............. Otherwise Explorer 6 is going back on and I would miss some of the features on IE7.

Favorites -- Frustrating !!!!

by Emma - 11/1/06 9:46 AM In reply to: Add To Favorites-BAD! by JanRZ

I totally agree with the previous posts. There has to be a way to collapse the sub folders. Doesn't anybody have a clue how to do it or who to contact to get this reversed to where only the main folders show up ? I'm beside myself when I want to try and save a new favorite. It takes too much time searching for the correct folder.

Whoever is responsible for programming this disaster should be FIRED !!!

Add To Favorites

by olderone - 3/5/07 9:33 AM In reply to: Add To Favorites-BAD! Primary Page Stays Up w/New Tabs-Good! by bohig

I strongly agree with so many of the replys that I have read. Microsoft has to rework this feature. It is time consuming to add a new site when you already have numerous sites in your favorites list. I have been using IE for many years and I have accumulated many sites (probably need to clean them out) in my Favorites list.

Great for home and office, but i will use firefox too. Why?

by Scrowshaw - 10/31/06 9:09 PM In reply to: What do you like/dislike about Internet Explorer 7? by John.Wilkinson Moderator

Anyone who is saying otherwise doesnt really know what they are on about, or is a fanboy.

Its stable, reasonable secure, easy to work with, etc.

I love the tabs, the new favourites/history, the nicely worked menus, and the fact i havent been able to break it yet.

We use a lot of addins here at work, and in our tests so far it has been very solid.

Problem with threads like these is you attract a lot of fanboys, who wont say anything good fullstop.

Me, i use both Firefox, and IE.
I use firefox for my internet banking and other high security applications to be on the safe side, and IE for general browsing due to it being much quicker, and more compatible.

But they both work, they are both easy to use and setup, and both are great for everyday users.

Pick one because its look and feel suits you. There is an addin, update or a solution for everything else.

why I like IE7

by holedout - 10/31/06 9:13 PM In reply to: What do you like/dislike about Internet Explorer 7? by John.Wilkinson Moderator

I began months ago with beta 2, then 3. Only problems were with text overlaps, apparently fixed. I like tabbed browsing, the magnifier button, and search bar.
I'm not a "tweaker", so Firefoxes themes etc didn't appeal to me. Favorites are easily managed with the new screen, and the security programs I run, symantec int sec, webroot, ewido appear to operate seemlessy, including the beta 2 defender. The separation of the back/fwd buttons and refresh/stop doesn't bother me, but then my mouse has back/fwd buttons.

I like just about everything...

by cesareDH - 10/31/06 9:14 PM In reply to: What do you like/dislike about Internet Explorer 7? by John.Wilkinson Moderator

with IE7. I use Opera about 30% of the time and IE7 the rest of the time, and IE7 seems noticably faster. I also have a problem with some web site's cookies using Opera which I don't have with IE7, even though I have Opera set to accept cookies from the site I'm visiting.
IE7 is part of the old dependable family of IE browsers. Everytime FireFox comes out with a new version I experiment with it for a couple months and always end up going back to IE. You can knock IE all you want, but for dependable over-all performance it can't be beat.
