hello, i am posting again about my hp dv1432us laptop. it is under warranty til dec 23 . . . anyway, to recap, it deveoped a high pitched whine when the cpu fan comes on (note it does not "spin up"-- it's like a long beep.)
anyway i sent it in for warranty service and when it came back, the packing in the box had fallen apart on one side and it was flopping around in there. they replaced the cpu fan and reimaged the hard drive. the whine is less poud but is still there, and now the dvd drive won't open half the time unless i shake the unit, i assume due to its bumping in shipment.
so i cahtted with service and they said to send it in again. if they fail to fix it again, what do i do? at what point do i expect a replacement unit? thanks fj
We rarely go through this more than twice but have this one unit that took six tries. Whether they replace the unit is up to them. No one here could tell you if that will ever happen but it has from time to time when you hit the 3rd or more trip.

expired HP will forget they knew you. If you bought the machine with a Gold Mastercard, they will double the manufacturer's standard warranty period...but that doesn't apply to damage done by a fall or getting racked around in shipping.
