by lemdphillips - 10/30/06 4:17 PM

Well as most of you can probably tell im in the market for a notebook and this is the link here.

Its what I wanted in a notebook and I love HP because they have been fairly helpful with my old Compaq Presario. Just wanted to know what people think of HP's products, support and most important of all this computer. HP AMD Turion 64 Mobile Technology ML-37 2.0GHz Laptop (DV5220CA)

Thanks

Anthony

Good product...

...but from my experience, their tech support is pretty much DIY. It hasn't bothered me much though, because I haven't needed much help with my new laptop. Their computers come pre-installed with a bunch of junk though, it only took me about 15-30 mins to get rid of it all though.

Well I think that junk is to be expected

Thanks, I am pretty serious about buying the HP Pavilion DV5220CA, in about a month because it has all the features I want, if anyone has any comments on this product they would be greatly appreciated.

Do you realize the 5000 series has been replaced by the 6000 series with DDR2, 5400rpm HDD & newer CPUs. Don't know if 6000 prices are higher than 5000 where you are but in the U.S., they are same or lower.

Good/great support great product

HP has great support but there are a few kinks. Phone support is great and the reps are knowledgable 99 percent of the time. The only prob I had is when my desktop intermittently would not detect the printer and would say "no device" in my taskbar. The rep said I didn't have my USB cable connected correctly and I assured him it was as I was checking the connection while we were on the phone and yet he still insisted it was the connection. I believe he was so insistent because he felt in no way possible was it the PC. so he had no other help or conclusion and decided that was the end of our "help" session. Obviously I still have the unresolved problem. The other con is that the support is overseas and unless you can decipher some of the heavy accents you'll have a hard time comprehending some reps. Online support is gret too because there are no accents to decipher! However, make sure you respond in a timely manner or let them know you're still there or they will commence with logging off the session, saying their thank you's for using HP Support, and before you knoiw it your session is closed and you have to re-login. As far as the product goes it is absolutely great! Everything is nice and modern looking unlike some laptops that look too boxy and very plain. I'll tell you what is a great deal... fhttp://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8032489&st=8032489&type=product&id=1157067574621

It has a 17" Widescreen! AMD TURION 64x2 Dual Core Processor instead of the single core. Also, an nVidia graphics card, 100gb drive, WinXP, remote control, integrated wireless LAN, Windows Vista Premium Ready, and more for only.....$899.00 instantly with no rebates!!!!!!!!!!!!! So check it out and good luck!

by lemdphillips - 11/2/06 9:47 AM In reply to: lightscribe by loobloob

Do you play games on the laptop like BF 1942 and 3D generation games?
Does the shared memory work well? Or does it give mediocre qualty or slowness?

thanks for the help!

games

by loobloob - 11/3/06 11:26 PM In reply to: UMA graphics RAM by lemdphillips

I haven't played a whole lot of games yet because i mainly bought my laptop as a business pc and of course to play movies while i'm on the road. It is after all a media/entertainment laptop as well. So it can handle the games and entertainment. I have played a few of the games the laptop came with like Fate and Blackhawk Striker 2 and the graphics are really nice with no slowdowns. Of course you could pay more for a laptop with a better graphics card but you'll be spending alot more without gaining a whole bunch. At least as far as graphics go. I forgot to mention that if you buy the HP laptop from Best Buy between Oct 27 ( I think) and Nov 15 you'll get a FREE upgrade for Windows Vista Premium. They'll print you an upgrade receipt that you'll redeem online sometime in the middle of Nov. and you'll receive your free Windows Vista Premium disc sometime in Jan. when the new Windows rolls out.
