by izote - 10/16/06 9:27 PMi tried to install vista so many times and i did wipe my hard drive a lot of times then now when i want to activate my copy of xp i need to call msn and get a 42 numbers activation code, how can i get a easy product key for my cd xp. thank you.

That is a built-in piracy countermeasure...if you reinstall Windows too many times you must call Microsoft to verify your copy. There is no legal way around it, so you must do as it says and call Microsoft and then enter the confirmation code. The only alternative is to purchase a new license to Windows XP, though a 5 minute toll-free phone call is usually far more welcoming.

If you built it and installed the Operating system your self, the key should be with the disc.
If you did not wipe out the operating system you can install Belarc Advisor and run it and it will give you the Key that is on your hard drive.
When operating System installed more than once and any major changes to the computer you will have to call Microsoft.

by junchao8 - 10/28/06 1:43 PM In reply to: how to get a new product key by izote, you used to be able to get a rc1 (5600) off their site and be given a key legally, now i think the link is closed, beside, vista rc2 is already out, ms wants to hit built 6000 before give out RTM verison, now almost every vista beta build got like different key, stick with XP, or try an open source os or try to install mac on pc(as long as you got a copy of mac os and a sse 3 cpu), vista that are out in public domain are all buggy , yesterday there was 5840, now it's like 5900 something...
