Which is better?

by th3offspr1ng - 10/19/06 4:28 PM

Of the Intel Pentium D, Intel Core 2 Duo, and the AMD 64 X2 is better for just general use in a home computer used for music, internet, school work, powerpoint, and a little light gaming?
It seems that these are the most popular in the computers on the market today and the differences confuse me.

intel core 2 duo is best for hard core gaming. the AMD athlon one is average but still really good for a lot of gaming. Intel Pentium D is the average processor and for the things you said you needed it for, intel pentium d will be the most efficient and cheapest alternative.

A good system with a Pentium D 805 Smithfield will be all that you need. Buying or building ?

A pentium III with a ti4200 video card would work for what you want, but for the price, I would go for any p4 system with onboard video. If down the road you decide you want better/faster graphics for games, just turn off the onboard video, add a decent graphics card and you have an improved pc. A good Athlon 3800 range pc would work well too. Watch for sales and you can find some really good deals.

Core 2 Duo is better than AMD X2 and Pentium D, and AMD X2 is better than Pentium D.
