How to recover pictures from defective SD memory card

by tdk99 - 10/19/06 10:32 AM

I want to recover 500 pictures from a 2GB SD PNY memory card. I sent it to Ritz Camera and they were unable to recover. PNY suggested that I check here for suggestions on who might be able to recover the pictures. Please help!

Some are demos, some recovery freely, some just show you what might come back if you pay up.

-> My burning question is how did you manage to take that many photos and not stop to copy them out?

My laptop doesn't work with my 2 and 4GB memory cards. I had to go get a card reader. Let's hope you know your hardware limits.

Recovery programs

I accidentally formatted card once, but was able to recover the photos with one of those photo recovery programs. I don't have the program anymore - this was years ago before a huge HD crash. I don't even remember the name of it, but there are still lots of those programs you can try for free. Try Googling "photo recovery."

Good software for picture recovery

by steelburner - 10/20/06 10:16 AM In reply to: How to recover pictures from defective SD memory card by tdk99

I use a $30 piece of software called ImageRecall, currently in version 3.0. You can download it from www.download.com (search for ImageRecall) and they will let you try the product to see if it works on your particular problem. They limit the number of recoveries you can make to ten in this "demo" version. If your card is too damaged to read, then you won't be out any bucks. It works best, of course, if you cough up the money for the full, registered version.

The interface is simple and powerful. Most of the "free" demos won't let you recover ANY images; they just show you how many they say they would have recovered, leaving you to wonder if the images would be useful.

I hope this helps ... "SteelBurner"

Go to www.convar.de and in products look for PC Inspector. It is a free download that sounds like what you need. Worth a try anyway.

The program that you need is free at the link below. It is Convar pc inspector SMART RECOVERY as long as the files have not been overwritten this will recover your photo's. I have even recovered files that hve been overwritten but this is very hit and miss.

photoRecovery

i typically take hundreds of photos in one sitting ... why not they are free if you dont print but the best ..so i can easily see 500 pic on a card ..

now i was asked to recover lots of pictures from an alaskan honeymoon ... i tried many programs some free some paid for and got varying results.. usually "no pictures found" .. then i tried an old program i bought years ago and forgot about .. it was "reg soft's photo rescue" .. while this old program didnt work completely it did at least show some pictures were recoverable ... i then purchased an upgrad for this and wow ...i recovered all be 2 pictures and even those had usable thumbnails so i could see what was missing ... there were even 3 short videos recovered ... priceless stuff ... in total i tried 8 programs and this was the one that worked best for me ...
