I've noticed that I have several identical songs in my Itune library. I have about 2000+ so far (I have a 30 gigi Ipod)so keeping track of songs can be a problem as I am new to this. Anyway, I know when I hook my Ipod up and Itunes comes up, I can delete a song that way. However, how do I make sure that the song is also deleted from the Itunes folder on my computer? One last question: since the songs are on the Ipod, how necessary is it to have them stored on the computer in the Itunes folder? Wouldn't Itunes list the songs on the Ipod anyway every time you connect the two? Thanks in advance for your help!-Mark
When you connect the 'Pod, the PC automatically updates it from the library on the PC. If the file is deleted, it's deleted. They work in conjunction. You have to have the files on the PC so it can update the 'Pod. Well, not really. There is a setting (I'll let you find it 'cause it can be dangerous) that will enable the 'Pod to act like a hard drive. In this mode, if you delete a song/file, it's gone forever, and the library is not stored on the PC. There is no "go back".
You don;t have to keep your whole library on the pod. Make a playlist give it a name and tell the set the pod to update fron that playlist only. Then simply copy tracks from your library to your playlist or similarly delete tracks from your playlist. When the pod updates it will do so only from the playlist. This way you get what you want on the pod but all your tracks are safe in your library on your pc.
This is also gift if you have more than 1 pod owner but only 1 pc in the house. Simply make several differently named playlists and set each pod to only update from 1 named playlist. This way all podders can keep their tracks in the same library but only have what the specifically want on their own pod
