eWEEK is carrying a story about a Gartner analyst making a presentation warning that one or two companies could come to dominate retail search. At the Gartner Symposium/ITxpo in Florida, referring to it as a ''scary scenario'', Gartner analyst Hung LeHong suggested that an entity such as one created by the merging Google and Amazon — referring to it himself as ''Googazon'' — could mediate half of all online transactions.

The thing is though that two guys painted this scenario, and with a hell of a lot more depth, some time in 2004. The name of the new search giant was even slightly more catchy - ''Googlezon''.

Is this a case of "Shame on you Gartner for not doing your homework"?
