by Gigity Gigity Goo - 10/7/06 10:05 AM

I have an AMD Atlon 64 x3 3800. I was wandering if my AMD needs an upgrade for gaming, and if AMD is better than inte;. i USED to have an intel crappy computer not worth mentioning.... well my 2 ghz amd is faster than my moms 3.4 ghz p4 extreme ht thingy, so the fun part comes,
IS AMD BETTER THAN INTEL??? intel clames to have the worlds best processor but i think its *cough, cough(false advertisement) ,cough, cough*

Look at the CPU benchmarks over at tomshardware.com They seem to like that new Core 2 Duo. The one thing you learn is that much like a horse race these 2 companies swap the lead often.

Is AMD better than INTEL

by Bruceice - 10/7/06 10:39 AM In reply to: I NEED TAH KNOW IF AMD IS BETTER THAN INTEL!!!!! by Gigity Gigity Goo

I wasnt a big fan of Intel until recently when they rolled out the CORE 2 DUOs. Because I wanted the ultimate machine I decided to go with Intel just to see what they had under the hood. I have to tell you, the CORE 2s are smoking! I think the ads with "the worlds best processor" are worth the hype. There isnt a huge difference in heat dissipation but the performance has peaked for relatively the same amount of heat. Yes I second having a look at tom's hardware and sites like anandtech. They seem to give Intel a heads up. And I hear very soon a quad core processor from Intel will roll out with the same architecture as the CORE 2.
In a nutshell, I would say Intel is the safest way to go. But it would be stupid to think that AMD is asleep as this whole thing happens, even the people at Intel know better than that!

Look at the max front side buss offered for each CO. 2gig AMD vs. 800 for Intel. I don't think Intel will have the so called lead too long. In other words GO AMD.

Funny how this video always comes up even though those types of AMD processors can only be found on ebay. Current AMD processors have the same kind of thermal protection that Intel does. Your post was used for nothing more than manipulation. Displaying the shortcomings of antique technology to influence a decision about current/future. Besides, who the heck runs their processor without a heatsink?

As for gaming, unless your running your games at max settings and max resolution, most people can't tell the difference during normal game play.

Newegg still has them.

Even after AMD updated the protection diode we still see this issue. I wrote that I only don't use those exposed core units.

Does this upset you?
