iTunes..why some don't like it?

by moshken - 10/2/06 7:30 AM

Hello,

I have 3 questions:

1. What are the drawbacks of iTune that some people don't like it?

2. Can we install a different firmware in the ipod to replace the iTune like Win amp?

3. What is the best program to listen to music on PC? I use Win Amp, and it seems OK to me.

Thanks.

Mo:-)

Short answers.

1. What are the drawbacks of iTune that some people don't like it?

I don't care for any DRM enabled product. So while I'll try it from time to time, I've yet to buy any DRM managed content. That's the long and short of it.

2. Can we install a different firmware in the ipod to replace the iTune like Win amp?

There is the iPod linux offering but when you do that you step firmly off any supportable space and can do anything you are capable of doing.

3. What is the best program to listen to music on PC? I use Win Amp, and it seems OK to me.

I don't think it matters as long as you pick the one you like.

Misconceptions

by daveworld - 10/2/06 9:35 AM In reply to: iTunes..why some don't like it? by moshken

1. The complaints I here is it uses lots of CPU power, kind of weird program (ported from Mac Side), but I think iTunes 7 fix that.

But the misconception is when you use iTunes; you are somehow being tied to DRM, false! iTunes (the music manager software) and iTunes Store are separate. If you don't want DRM, don’t buy from the iTunes Store.

2. You can find a few software like http://ephpod.com/ you can use instead of iTunes. I also believe WinAmp has a plugging that will allow you to use the iPod instead of iTunes.

3. Personally, I rather iTunes because of it's fast search feature and it's smart playlist. Also with my large collection of songs, it handles it with ease. But WinAmp is also good.

iTunes gives you 2 choice on install

by daveworld - 10/4/06 8:01 PM In reply to: yeah! by marcelomdsc

iTunes ask on first install:
Do you want iTunes to manage your files and folders or do you want to manage it yourself.

But you guys amaze me with this control thing, do you have a real life besides spending hours "managing" your music?

I have complete control over my music

by Glorybox3737 - 10/7/06 10:52 PM In reply to: yeah! by marcelomdsc

I control
-what goes into itunes.
-what goes onto my iPod
-what playlist I want on my ipod
-when those songs go on my ipod
-What podcast I want
-If and when I want those podcast deleted

What more control can you really want or get from another program? Oh and the best part about iTunes is if I get tired of controlling it all, I can have iTunes do it for me. It's amazing what happens when you actually take ten minutes to figure out a program. All you have to do is read the manual and you'll see that you can have all the control you'd like.

Help on itune

by moshken - 10/8/06 8:29 PM In reply to: I have complete control over my music by Glorybox3737

Hello Glorybox3737,

Thanks for sharing and it seems to me you know iTune very well. So I hope you can help me on this issue, I looked at the manual and I could not find the solution for it.

I use iTune to listen to my music on my PC. On my PC I have organized my music in a parent directory and sub-directories. Some of the music I have I downloaded them through the internet. I go to each song and click the property of each song and clean all the stuff that I do not like to be there. I go in the comment field and I put letters for me to know the beat of the song, for instance I put VS for a very slow song and F for a fast song.

When I look at my directory it looks very clean and the way I want it. When I copy them into iTune, for some reason itune brings back all the stuff that I already deleted, and most of the times the letters that I have put in the comments are gone and replaced by other stuff.

Could you please help if you know how to solve this problem?

I am going to post this on this forum as a new thread too.

Thank you very much.

Mo:-)

iTunes is way easy to use

by bevillan - 10/5/06 8:50 AM In reply to: iTunes..why some don't like it? by moshken

Anyone who thinks iTunes is a hassle to use or isn't user friendly must be a novice with computers.

How hard is it to plug in your iPod to your comp, let iTunes autodetect it, add files to your library and then drag and drop them into your iPod? Seriously folks, if you have a hard time with using iTunes maybe you should just stay away from electronics all together.

iPodservice.exe consumes almost 4MB of RAM

by mdsofky - 10/8/06 3:18 AM In reply to: iTunes..why some don't like it? by moshken

One thing I don't like is how iTunes dumps the QuickTime icon in the system tray (although I know it can be removed) and the iPodservice runs (using 3.7 MB of RAM), and I don't own an iPod.
