Office 2007 technical refresh won't let me open files

by engelasche - 9/21/06 10:19 PM

I want to open excel files but each time it comes up with "this file cannot be open because your virus scanner has detected a problem with the file." i've checked and nothing is wrong with the file. I've turned off the Norton Anti-virus off and still nothing. Hopefully this is a problem that can be solved easily.

We installed Open Office to get back to work while Microsoft sorts out this beta.

Office 2007 technical refresh and antivirus problems

by seeker22 - 10/2/06 6:53 PM In reply to: Office 2007 technical refresh won't let me open files by engelasche

After installing the Office 2007 technical refresh I could not open files. Excel reported that my antivirus program found a problem.

I turned the Norton plugin for Office off and, hey presto, the files opened.

I have tried to get some answers from Symantec but so far no joy.

Two turn off the Office plug-in

Although its not the safest way around this problem, you can switch off the Office plug-in in Norton by going to:
->Options
->Norton Anti-virus
->Miscellaneous(under "other")
->uncheck "Turn Office plug-in on"

Remember to switch it back on as soon as Norton or Office fix the problem.
