Has anybody got tips for how to use standard 3.5mm jacked headphones for listening in on what the camcorder's mic is picking up whilst recording? (plugging h-phones directly into the a/v out seems no good)
I have hooked up the Video/Audio out cable to sutable converters so I can hear what is going on via hphones, but its wayyy to long a cable to be practical out in the field.
If nothing else I will pickup a set of knockoff iPod video leads & splice them to some old ear-buds.
But before I get that desperate, I'd like to hear of any alternatives.
out. The earphone plug can be connected to two of these via an adaptor from Radio Shack. Sorry, but I don't remember the adaptor source. Use Google to find it.
never was able to find such a thing
tip of the RCA jacks. Very manageable. There may be shorter ones, but these suffice for me.
An Audio Engineer friend uses Sony pro-audio headset that are 3.5mm jack "standard", and need an adapter to plug into a 1/4" jack when she's on a mixing board. But the cable has always bugged me. My camera's got a headphone jack, so I'm not quite where you are... BUT:
I have just begun investigating bluetooth headphones. The self-battery-powered base station *could* velcro to the camera body or tripod (or in my case, BeachTek XLR adapter) and the self-battery-powered headset would be on my head - no cable! They are marketed to MP3 user portability...
Issues I am looking into:
1) BlueTooth RF or EM interference (with or without UHF wireless clip-on lavalier mic - none expected because BlueTooth is so low-power).
2) Battery life before recharge needed (minimum 8-10 hours listening time).
3) Base station size (smaller is better).
4) Base station plug on a tail (to not block the mic-in jack - at least 1 inch long tail with right-angle jack).
5) All batteries rechargeable
The IR versions look like the base stations all need AC power, so they are off the list. Though the Clarion WH-204 would be interesting on the occasions I have a boom operator - so we can both hear whats going on.
What are your thoughts?
So far on my list (the "short list" will follow after some investigation - if you are interested):
Plantronics Pulsar 590A
Koss HB-60 (base station looks large)
CellLink BTSD 9000D
Creative Wireless SL3100
Creative Labs CB2530 (looks like the smallest base station, but I wish the jack was right-angle)
Saitek A350
Mustek MBT-SA120
Cool idea otherwise tho. Dont have the budjet for BT devices personally...
the bluetooth codec would inject some delay (likely just a few milliseconds, but delay, nonetheless). Since my monitoring is more to be sure that I am getting audio, it almost does not matter if it looks like a bad foreign movie. But your point is well taken.
THANK YOU!
