I am waiting on doing my tax return, so hopefully if things go right, i can buy. Still considering this Philips.
I bought the TV yesterday and have been watching it almost constantly since. Only had the TV operational for about 24 hours, so this is a very preliminary take:
Bought the TV from Costco for $1899 (PS, they don't take credit cards other than American Express, but they do take cash and debit cards .. and checks too I think)
I looked at the Panasonic EDTV compared to this one also. At a distance of about 5 feet, they looked quite similar. The Panasonic didn't have a digital tuner built in and cost $100 more, so my choice was easy.
Setup of the TV was easy, but it's a 2 person job, so have a friend help. I bought a new DVD player (prog-scan) to go with it and hooking everything up and getting the TV running took about an hour or so.
I've read as much as I can find about the "break-in" of the TV. Should follow this procedure I believe, because I have noticed some light artifacts that remain on the screen after the TV is off, especially when a bright white image is on the screen for a minute or two. Supposedly the first 100 to 200 hours are the most sensitive to burn-in problems, then later it gets better. I am trying to run the TV as much as possible with constantly moving video that varies in color and brightness. Pick a good chapter on a DVD that isn't too dark or stationary and do a "repeat" mode. I want to watch the superbowl on it, and there will certainly be logos, scoreboard, etc on the screen, so I'm gonna have to run the TV as much as I can over the next week to get it prepared. I have contrast set to 47, brightness set to 48.
The TV image is very good. DVDs look super on it!! I haven't had a chance to get an antenna hooked up to watch any HDTV on it, but I should before long.
It's a sweet set and I'm enjoying it so far. Once I have more to say, I'll add a new review.
I bought this before Christmas (couldn't wait) and paid 1999.00. I am very happy with it. Plus with Costco's very liberal return policy didn't see a downside.
I say go for it.
So I called Costco the other night about this television. I was told it was just released so this is why it's hard to find alot of information on it. Sonds like the avalanche of price dropping has just started. This TV has ever feature you could possibly want. I am going to wait a little long for a more attractive unit with the same feature. I also noticed on Crutchfield's website and several Panasonic models have dropped in price as well.
They are a little(?) higher but their service is aces. Tech support outstanding. Samsung plasma delivered to 2nd floor apt, unboxed and set on my stand, no charge (just had hernia operation). Free delivery, no taxes as yet. Bought the tv, Onkyo A/V receiver (needed LOTS of help hooking that up), Infinity speakers and Panasonic VCR-DVD player recorder from them and no complaints. Didn't buy all at once, had to piece it together as finances allowed.

I bought my Philips 42" plasma HDTV on 4/2; yesterday, on 5/2, it stopped working. The red LED flashes 7 times. This is some repair code which I have yet to figure out. I really like the set, but don't want to deal with problems every 30 days.
I bought a 42PF7220A/37 on 4/2/06. It's now dead, just 30 days later.
I love this television. I purchased the 42PF7220A/37 at Costco on Sunday 5/21 and I've been very happy with it. It is an excellent mix of features and picture, for an excellent price.
The features I like the most are it's ability to automatically select the correct screen size on the fly and smoothly transition to it. It has a lot of connections: Two HDMI connections, three AV, Side panel AV connections, Recorder out, USB, and an HD tuner built in. The Pixel Plus is nice too. It definitly sharpens any analog signal sent to the screen. I've updated my model using a usb disk drive, and I found it was very easy. PIP is an added bonus (side by side is included), but is only available when viewing one HDMI input and one analog input, not two analog or two HDMI sources. And it was super easy to set up this television! Friendly and easy to reach customer service representatives have been a major plus.
Calling Philips customer care a few times has resolved every problem I've had. I found when turning this set on and off - be patient. I noticed that if you hit the on and off buttons too quickly the Television has an 'electrical discharge' issue, according to customer care. The set will flash a red light instead of turning on. This happened after I hit the power button on the remote a couple times quickly.... And it happened again, when I turned on the set manually and my girlfriend hit the power button on the remote, almost at the same time. This problem is easily solved - just unplug the set for 2 minutes (the red light will eventually stop flashing). Plug the set in again, and press the power button. According to customer care this is the number one problem people call in about.
Secondly, make sure your cables are all excellent quality. The cables aren't usually in sight so I don't think about them! My television was starting up with a Black and White image rather than color, when I changed the channel (on the Philips TV not the tivo/cable box), the color would start up. This is because the cable from Tivo to the television wasn't transmitting a good signal. After replacing the S-Video cable with a new one, the television starts up in color every time!
The cons to this set are as follows: First, Red is too saturated, I turned the contrast down to fix this, but it is still a little too much. I would like a little more control over the colors. Secondly, the instruction manual is on a CD, it doesn't come with a printed model specific manual. It's not a big deal because I have a computer, but I prefer printed manuals. The slideshow feature is a novelty. It requires scripting, which is out of the question for most people. Finally, I wish the speakers were detachable, since I will never use them!
Found a great deal on this 42 in Plasma 999.00 plus shipping $1154 total but have seen some issues where there is a black screen after weeks / maonths of usage. I had ordered this prior to seeing these reviews but have not received it yet. I did see the following firmware update on the philips website
BX23U-1.4.0.0_03081
Following problem is solved :
• Issue related to intermittent video loss is solved.
Has anyone used this firmware that was released on 8/3/06? If so any issues
