Help! Newbie with 1&1

by dev_0860 - 9/24/06 6:39 PM

Hi, I'm pretty new into the whole web development thing, and I am using 1&1 Hosting for my first from-scratch site. I would like to set up a forum from http://www.getvanilla.com but am really lost with what file goes where, and how I can access it. I am having a newbie nightmare!

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Greg

The answer is likely no.

"Vanilla can run on just about any web server in the world. To run Vanilla, you should have:

* PHP 4.1 or greater
* MySQL 3.23 or greater
"

Now ask 1&1 if they provide that. Next you should read the documention on Vanilla and ask in their forums. Beware the first response will likely be "read the fine manual."

Your question is something that is in the documentation.

Option 2

Not to discourage you from trying to load in the Vanilla forum, but have you checked to see if 1&1 offers a forum that you load? I have found that for newbies it is sometimes best to use a forum available from your host because they are more likely to assist in the set-up and trouble shooting. some have an auto installer that saves a lot of time and hassle.

Thanks for the responses. I will try asking the people at vanilla and see if they can give me a little more technical detail

I run 5 PHP/MySQL forums on 1&1's servers. If you need a hand, let me know. :-)
