2 problems! :(

by dustino71 - 9/22/06 4:53 PM

I recently moved and brought my computer along with me in the car. I hooked it up in the new place and everything seemed to load fine until the screen with the windows XP display with the little progress bar underneath it. As soon as that was done and windows was about to actually load, the monitor lost the signal. I kept repeating this a few times to see if maybe it was a fluke, but no, it wasn't. Now, the weird part about it, is that everything loads fine when I run windows in safe mode. Any idea how to fix this so that I can run in regular mode?? PS the use last known good config didn't work either...

Problem the second! My wireless card which I have had in my computer (much like my video card) forever is not being detected either and I am no where near a router or any plug in (wireless house only). I don't know why it started suddenly doing this, but does anyone know how to make windows detect it again?

thanks very much in advance!

about the detection problem

I had a weird situation where my multiple drives were not in My Comp folder. The fix was simple. Disconnect the power to the computer and remove the card. Wait 15 minutes and reboot. Then shut down again and install the card again. Reboot(cold boot) and let the hardware detection ask for drivers etc... Install the disk if you have it and it should reload as before. I hope this works for you. I don't know exactly why the monitor situation is happening but I suspect it is driver related. I say this because it works when few drivers are installed(safe mode) See what errors show up in your device manager and look into driver conflicts. Also go into Control Panel-Administration-event viewer and see what error codes can tell you.

*System restore in safe mode(rather than last good configuration. *Make sure video card is securly fixed and reinstall. *Make sure cable contacts are good.

Re wireless card not detected - do you mean it is not listed at device manager ? Then make sure it is fixed in properly, or try another slot. Reinstall drivers.

I'm confused.

In your post you say you cannot load Windows into Normal mode, but can load into Safe Mode.

Then you say that the OS is not detecting the wireless card.

How do you know this if you cannot boot up into Normal mode?

I may be wrong, but booting up into Safe Mode only loads the minimum of devices and drivers, and so it may be normal that Safe Mode does not detect network cards such as wireless cards.

As to the monitor problem, I agree that this seems to be driver related. Can you re-install your video card and monitor drivers in Safe Mode?
