CCleaner...

CCleaner is an excellent free option that's completely customizable and adds in registry cleaning for an extra layer of cleansing.

Hope this helps,
John

CCleaner was recommended to me by technical support when my computer was acting up, and it does a great job.

Get it, and numerous other utilities, at www.filehippo.com

This is a pretty nifty tool which can really help get rid of a whole load of junk and other unwanted files.

I also agree I use Crap Cleaner and if you want to get an extra punch Clean Up is another good one it was free but I think now it is considered shareware
now. majorgeeks.com is another good download site with plenty of ideas.
good luck

I find CCleaner excellent too

by gnasher - 9/22/06 6:02 AM In reply to: CCleaner... by John.Wilkinson Moderator

Over the years I have tried various clean up utilities and now just stick to CCleaner. It is fast and cleans up really well (particularly good at finding rubbish files left when uninstalling software) without being over-enthusiastic and getting rid of stuff you would prefer to keep and it is free (although it is worth giving them a donation if you like it because it saves such a lot of hassle). It also works with Mozilla Firefox while a lot of clean up utilities only work with IE.

A Dell rep put it on my computer during a service call last month and it really cleans up! I never knew there was so much clutter on a hard drive.

I agree... CCleaner is tops!

I've used CCleaner for awhile now and it's good solid software. Having been burned in the past by similar products, I was very cautious at first. It works great time after time and I have had zero problems with it. Can't believe it's free. Try it, you won't be disappointed.

best cleaner

by gander123 - 9/20/06 6:39 AM In reply to: cleaning software by Fred_ME47

I found Winoptimizer 3 from ashampoo or ccleaner to be the best and the safest.
If you do go for a paid choice i reccomend Regvac it is the best by far..

Clean and smooth running PC

by Denise Neve - 9/22/06 11:31 AM In reply to: best cleaner by gander123

I know there is some very good freeware around, but I think PC Tools "Registry Mechanic" is worth every single cent. It has to be my favourite download by a long way, and for me there are some things that it really is worth paying for. It carries a money back guarantee so there is nothing to lose.

ccleaner is my top pick, too

by dcpacker - 9/23/06 7:14 AM In reply to: best cleaner by gander123

I have used ccleaner for quite a while and have had nothing but success using it. I will run spybot after running ccleaner analyzer/issue resolver, and spybot comes up clean as a whistle.

by dbh29 - 9/22/06 5:06 AM In reply to: cleaning software by Fred_ME47

I've been very happy w/ Ace Utilities from: http://www.acelogix.com/. Since I've added this to my arsenal of cleaning utilities I've had a speedy system w/ few problems. I believe they have a free trial for 30 days - Completely functional.
